Persecution Continues Of David Wama...

Students activities
For several years, it has been my dream to plant a vibrant and growing church in Kpalime to win the Kloto Region for Christ. After the church was planted, I saw the need to add a preacher training school that will produce qualified preachers to manage the affairs of congregations that would be planted. The first graduates of the Center for Biblical Studies were only three men who had come from the denominational churches to study the Bible. They were converted, and today they work with the Church of Christ.

Selom – works with the Nyiveme Church of Christ

Jean – works with the newly planted church at Hanyigba Duga

Gabriel – works with the church Church of Christ at Notse Kpota.

In 2009, twelve students also started a two year program at CBS. Today, 9 of them have remained and are looking forward to their graduation in June, 2011.

As part of the program at CBS, students are assigned to congregations in the villages where they work during the weekends – teaching and preaching.

Kossi – works with Kpele Beme congregation on weekends.  This congregation has a membership of 12 and presently has 4 prospects he is studying with. A public preaching is scheduled for April 22-24 in Beme.

David Wama- Works with the Kpadape church of Christ. This congregation came out of a denomination in Kpadape. It has a membership of 12. He is still studying with members of the denomination he came out of.

Clement – currently assists David at Kpadape as he prepares the ground in his village for the establishment of the church. He lives in a village called Aveho- Tugbli. He is engaged in a serious evangelism , meeting with a group on weekly basis. Public preaching will soon be organized in the village.

Senyo Folli- He works with the Kloh church of Christ with a membership of 22. He is currently studying with 7 regular visitors. This congregation also came out of a denomination.

Abraham – Preaches for the Avekpo church of Christ. The congregation has a membership of 16 but is blessed with about 9 visitors each Sunday. Personal work is seriously going on now.

Messan- Works with the Nyiveme Church of Christ home of CBS. This congregation has a membership of 35 with some visitors each Sunday as a result of the radio program. Messan plans to plant  a congregation in a Kousuntu a town near Kpalime.

Kokou Toulassi- is a son of a preacher who passed away about 4 years ago. He works with the Detideke church of Christ near Kpalime. This congregation has a membership of 25.  Toulassi is involved in outreach in the surrounding villages.

Joseph and Yawo Akogo both worship with the church in Kloh.

Campaign For Christ At Hanyigba, Duga
Jean Akli, with support from CBS, organized a two day public preaching in Hanyigba Duga. Date 18th -19th February 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm each night. 85 persons were present on the 18th and 120 present on the 19th. As a result of the campaign, two people from the village came to visit the church.

The first preachers’ wives seminar was organized at the Nyiveme church of Christ. The seminar brought together ten (10) women. The theme was, “Preachers wive’s co-laborers in the Lord.”

Topics included:
1. Contributions of women in the development of the church
2. Women in evangelism
3. Women’s education in the church
4. Women’s responsibility in the home
5. The role of women in the church

The resource persons were:
1. Gabriel
2. Selom
3. Rodriguez
4. Jean Akli

The Nyiveme Church in Kpalime this month is studying benefits of being a Christian at the Sunday morning bible class. There is also a special evening class for the women each Sunday evening at 3:00 pm. They are studying personal evangelism. This class is preparing the women for the Tuesday morning personal work in Kpalime.

The church is studying “True Worship” in the mid week class. The goal of this class is to help people read the bible in the local dialect – Ewe. The church is using. The Hanyigba Church of Christ is organizing Ewe language class for 21 non -members in the village. This approach is to evangelize the lost by using the Bible as the text book for the class.

Radio Program
The world radio sponsored program aired from Radio Planet in Kpalime is making so much impact. Several calls are received each month inviting the speaker to plant the church of Christ in their village. Listeners are receiving directions to the meeting places in their localities. Some listeners are also calling to make enquiries about Centre For Biblical Studies (CBS).

Nyiveme Congregation Needs A Larger Place Of Worship
The Nyiveme church in Kpalime is outgrowing it current place of worship. The attendance is over 35 on Sundays and this is making it extremely uncomfortable for the church. The leadership is considering erecting a shed on the premises that will take not less than 60 worshippers. As soon as the estimate for the construction is complete we shall let you know.

Needs:
1. Lap top for Cephas- principal of CBS
2. Digital Camera

Sad News: Preacher before the law
Just as I was preparing to send this report, I got a call from Cephas the principal of CBS in Kpalime. The statement was short: David Wama was taken to court yesterday and the judge remanded him in police cell till he pays his former employer five hundred thousand CFA). The treasurer and the secretary of his former church were at the court to prove that the funds realized through church collection was used by the church under the care of David Wama when he was the preacher, and that he did not use the funds on himself.

I understand the judge refused to verify what the men were saying. He ordered that David be placed in police cell till at least half of the money is paid and arrangement made for the payment of the rest. (NOTE: The amount of money needed in full, has been provided for David to be released from jail.)

Brethren, this is another attempt by his former boss to frustrate him since he took some members with him to start the Church of Christ. It is my humble appeal that we help David out of this trouble- this is modern day persecution.

Serving Him,
Willie

(NOTE: The money has been raised and provided to get David released from jail. Please continue to remember him in prayer)

50 Years Of The Lord's Church...

This year marks the 50th year (Golden Jubilee) of the church of Christ in Ghana. Several lectureships, conferences, seminars have been scheduled by various congregations and schools throughout the year to educate and motivate brethren to remain faithful to Christ and His doctrines as pertains to the church, salvation, Christian living, evangelism and unity among brethren.

Many have come into the church who know nothing about the restoration. They see the church as just one of the denominations. A lot of education needs to be done.  Since there are only a few of us from the early days, the mantle falls on us to do most of the teaching and seminars. I have had only three weekends to spend at home this year. For now I have all of my weekends in April taken through the second weekend of May.  There is a documentation committee set up by the Bomso church in Kumasi I am working on.  The aim is to collect and put together the bits and pieces of information we can get --written, vocal, visual to help write the history of the church in Ghana.

Please, extend my regards to great brethren at Bear Valley. May God continue bless your efforts as you fulfil your mission to train preachers.

Thank you and bye for now.

Public Radio Proves Successful...

By the grace of the Lord, activities at the Tamale Institute of Biblical Studies are ongoing and the entire brethren here in Tamale are grateful to all who are involved in making this successful. This has been the general expression of all who visit the Institute.

Women from the two congregations paid a visit to the Institute to encourage the Students. During the visit, they presented some soap and food items to the students. The women interacted with the students to know their needs and promised to do their best to offer their widow's mite. Receiving the items on behalf of the students, the dean of students, brother Daniel Agyei Mensah, thanked the women and urged them to continue with the good works.

Another event during this reporting period was the visit of Steven Ashcraft. This was his maiden visit to the Institute as the Coordinator for Bear Valley Bible Institute. The local Board of Directors took advantage of his presence to discuss new guidelines for the smooth running of the Institute. This included streamlining of many administrative functions for the school. Prominent among the guidelines is a doctrinal position statement for the Institute. This is a document indicating the stance of the Institute on various doctrinal issues. This document is to be sent to all Instructors to read, and if in agreement with the contents, sign and return the document to the Institute.

BUILDING FOR TAMALE INSTITUTE OF BIBLICAL STUDIES AT ROOFING STAGE
By the grace of God and the financial support from brethren in America, the Tamale Institute of Biblical Studies plans to soon be accommodated in this new structure. Currently, an order has been made for the supply of roofing sheets. Additional funds need to be raised for plastering, painting, and other finishing touches. It is hoped that the second batch of students would be accommodated in this structure.

With this in place, brethren in and around Tamale would be blessed with a facility to enhance their knowledge in the scripture. Several programs would be designed not only for preachers but the youth, women, and leaders of the various congregations and even the general public.

Steadily teaching and learning is going on. All instructors scheduled for the quarter have honored their invitation except one whose topic was taught by the local Instructors. Daniel Kyereh Mensah from Sunyani taught I,II, and III John, Joshua Aidoo from West Coast School of Preaching – Takoradi, taught Church History and local instructors handled the Books of Job and Ecclesiastes while presently, brother Gyan – Kesse is taking them through the topic: The Church, Beginning, Apostasy, Reformation and Restoration. The students are coping up with the studies and there is all indication that the vast knowledge acquired will impact greatly on the growth of the congregations in the three northern regions of Ghana. The Institute needs a photo-copier to cut down the cost of photocopying from the public printing houses.

Brother Mensah on the radio programThe Church of Christ in Tamale in collaboration with the Tamale Institute of Biblical Studies have embarked on preaching on Public FM Radio on every Friday from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm. This activity has caught the interest of the public. It has increased the number of Bible prospects and it is hoped that  most of those who study with brethren, by the grace of God, will become Christians. In order to do this activity at a very minimal cost and continuously, the Institute and Church in Tamale seek for our own private FM Radio Transmitter and appeal to all who can assist to support this Godly activity.  Souls must be won for Christ. Radio and Television broadcast has become the most popular and most far reaching means of propagating the gospel and with our own equipment in place, it would be an enhancement to the spreading of the gospel. All who are interested in supporting should contact the coordinator.

The congregations in Tamale have for some time now enjoyed powerful sermons and great teachings from Brother Gyan-Kesse preaching at Tamale Eastvisiting instructors. The most recent is brother Gyan- Kesse who spoke on the topic- The Need to Maintain the Identity of the Church. In his presentatation a lot was learned. He explained that the Church had an identity of growth and urged all to take preaching of the gospel seriously since that is a means of attaining the promise of God. The Institute is poised to bring about a positive growth in the congregations and therefore will continue to share the knowledge and wisdom of the visiting instructors with the congregations.

Plans are being made for the graduation of the first batch of 15 students. This activity is tied to the Institutes annual seminar starting from June 23rd 2011 to  June 26th 2011. It is expected that all stakeholders would attend to grace this great day and wish to invite all who have the Lords work at heart to attend and support the Institute.

26 Students Preparing

To our brethren in Christ,

Things are going well here at the Chimala Bible Institute. The students and faculty are all working hard to make the school the best in the Bear Valley system.

We are constantly reminded as we work in this extension school of the good work the Bear Valley system accomplishes in foreign countries. For example, this quarter the two departments, Swahili and English, are learning together in the Church History class with the aid of a translator. It is a joy to see the students begin to understand the history of the Lord’s church and how various denominations have developed over the centuries.

In addition to this, the importance of the American short course teachers was illustrated during Brent Smith’s short classes. Brent taught John and Christian Evidences while I taught I, II Timothy and Titus and Christian Ethics. The students enjoyed his classes and his company. On the Thursday before he left, Brent sponsored a pig cookout for the students and faculty. We all thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship.

I’m continually amazed at the improvement of the students’ research and writing efforts. This is because of the many hours Rebecca Benson, our librarian and administrative assistant, has put in tutoring the students in essay writing and research.

As the weather continues to be cool and the rains fall and everything is blooming with at least 30 varieties of plants on the campus, our students have a beautiful place to prepare themselves to be well-trained evangelists and teachers of God’s word. Interest continues to be high for those former graduates as we start the Master’s program in a little over a month. This will further train teachers and evangelists to train others in the countries of Tanzania, Malawi, and the Congo.

As all 26 students gather for a group picture with their new Bear Valley t-shirts, we exemplify the spirit of unity and joy at the Chimala Bible Institute.

God bless,

Progress...

Progress... Every congregation and mission point wants to see progress. The same is true with the Extension program.

This progress is seen when men like Desdery (picture left) fills the role of training men to preach, just as he was taught years before. This is what the work is all about. Read more in Cy Stafford's report.

Monday and Tuesday of this week, the Extension staff will be meeting to discuss various issues about the work. We plan to examine the progress and problems of the past year and discuss the plans of how we will progress in the years ahead. We have identified a number of challenges. Addressing these challenges and working through them will help us reach greater levels of success.

This meeting is significant to the development of Extension Training. If we are going to improve communication, standardize curriculum, strengthen resources, and expand our vision, then we must work together to accomplish progress.

As each phase of the work is considered, staff members will be able to discuss ways to improve the development in each location. Through these meetings we pray we will be able to help the overall program continue to move forward.

Coordinator Updates

Reports from the coordinators are now located on the website, under Staff Reports. The address is /extension-schools/

Howell and Mary Ferguson are now in Gorlovka, Ukraine. They will be working with the school over the next few months. Please pray for them.

Donnie Bates recently returned from teaching at ITL in Guatemala. You can read about his week and work in Donnie’s final report from Guatemala.

Extension Reports

Think Souls... Cambodia Style: The report from Cambodia shows the growth in the church at Takam Village.

A Preacher Goes A Preaching: In Arusha, the work of the Andrew Connally School of Preaching is seeing the fruit of their labor.

Have You Been To Loliondo? This question has a powerful meaning when you read the article from Jimmy Gee about their work.

Final Thoughts

As several schools finish their quarter of study, they are working in campaigns or taking a short break before continuing in their preparation to preach the gospel.

The report is a little shorter this week, but the information is just as powerful. I want to leave you with a thought about how important you are to the development of Extension Training. Your contribution to this work, whether in prayer, financial support, encouragement, teaching, directing, coordinating, or any other area is vital.

Paul said it best when he wrote to the church in Corinth, “For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God. Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all.” 2 Cor. 9:12-13.

Thank you all. Make a great day.

God bless

Bob

Think Souls... Cambodia Style

Hello everyone,

I have some news concerning the work in Siem Reap Cambodia.

Leang Dai
The work is doing alright for the church at Leang Dai and now Sokchea and Ravy are trying to help people up there with spiritual and also physical as well, but more importantly is the spiritual side.

Sokchea went to get engaged to his girlfriend last week on Saturday and he expects to marry next year, that's his plan. Please keep him in your prayers for his leadership as a local preacher to the church at Leang Dai.

Takam
The church is doing okay, and Choeuy and Borey, along with some more students keep going there to strengthen the faith of the members every week. On Saturday before last week I took my family and two mores student went there to visit the church and they seem to be happy to see us. Yesterday (Sunday) just after the worship there were 11 more souls added to the church by the Lord for the church at Takam.

I would like to ask you all to pray for Choeuy and Borey as they are now devoting themselves to work for the church at Takam and moreover they also plan to marry sometime.

Siem Reap
The church is doing okay. We prepare ourselves for the annual of lectureship that will come in two more weeks and now I have arranged some plan for the work evangelism. We've have some new people come to join with us on Wednesday and Sunday to study and worship with us.

I have two families that I have been working with now and Lord willing, sooner or later, they will become a Christian and our staff is also encouraged to setup Bible studies with more and more people especially around the church building.

Please also pray for Darat, one of our staff, who plans to marry this coming 1st of April with his girlfriend, Saray.

All in all, we thank you so much for supporting the work and the school in Siem Reap. God be with you and protect you always. Please say hello to the brethren in your congregation for us.

A Preacher Goes A Preaching...

Greetings Fellow Workers:

The picture to the left is Desdery Masawe, a graduate and now teacher at the Andrew Connally School of Preaching, Tanzania, East Africa! In this picture, he is teaching the Ki-Swahili students.

Stephanie and I stand in awe of the love of God and the love and compassion of so many of our fellow saints. Your prayers, visits, cards, calls, e-mails, and your generosity over the past few weeks and months has reminded both of use of the great privilege and joy it is to be a part of God’s family. Stephanie’s mother grows stronger day by day thanks to your many prayers and God’s wonderful provisions. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Today was a reminder of the need for commitment to God, His work and being a part of a Biblical plan that has a sustainable, future looking purposed mission. The Arusha congregation invited one of the Andrew Connally School of Preaching students to come and preach.

His name is Lucas Jangandu. He obeyed the Gospel in 1989 in his village of Mombo. He moved to Arusha shortly after that where he influenced some of his family, who also became New Testament Christians. In 1992 the Arusha congregation selected and sent him to Chimala Mission’s preacher training school.

During Lucas’s introduction remarks before he began preaching his (God’s) lesson, he mentioned to Arusha (us) this was not his first time to stand before the local congregation and preach God’s Word. He mentioned the fact that he had sat at the feet of Eddy Gilpin and Cy Stafford at the school of preaching in 1992-1993, in Chimala. He was so delighted to be one of the first to study at the Andrew Connally School Preaching (Ki-Swahili program), that he might increase his knowledge of God’s Word and Will.

When Lucas graduated in 1993, we (Eddy and I) sent him and a co-worker to the town of Tanga (on the cost of Tanzania, just south of the Kenya/Tanzania border). They planted the Lord’s Church there (the first in this region) and it continues to this day.

It is such a privilege to be a small part of God’s eternal purpose. To “go” and “preach” the Gospel and “teach” all things to the good people of Tanzania, is such a blessing. To see God working in the lives of His people here in Tanzania, to witness their maturing in the Faith, and to see them actively propagating the Church throughout East Africa and beyond, is an amazing thing to behold.

This story illustrates in a grand way the providence of God in the lives of His faithful, and how it can change lives eternally. When we trust Him in all our ways, He is faithful to bless our efforts. He gives the increase, we are simply commanded to go, preach and teach!

Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary.” (Galatians 6.9 - NASV)

We pray that God will bless all who love Him, His work in Tanzania, and especially all who love and support His mission work through the Tanzania 2000 mission effort.

Please keep the Kambarage family in your prayers. He lost his 40 year old nephew last week. They made a 23 hour journey to Musoma to carry the body to be buried.

In Him,

Cy & Stephanie

Have You Been To Loliondo?

Dear Supporters, Family, and Friends,

"LITTLE BOY BLUE COME BLOW YOUR HORN. THE SHEEP'S IN THE MEADOW AND THE COW'S ARE IN THE..." road. All over the village of Kisongo, goats, sheep and cows are herded to anywhere grass can be found. Trina was driving along a main highway and two young shepherd boys were resting on the bank while their cows grazed near the road.  One cow wandered onto the highway almost causing a wreck.  Trina "blew her horn" near the boys alerting them to the danger.

"HAVE YOU BEEN TO LOLIONDO?" was the question asked of Lembris after his friends noticed the change in him (since he became a Christian).  Lembris no longer smokes marijuana or tobacco and no longer drinks alcohol. Recently, the village of Loliondo (near the Kenyan border) has been the focus of much interest due to a so-called healer / medicine man there.  You can go there and pay about 30 cents to drink a liquid which the maker claims will cure cancer, AIDS, diabetes, hypertension and other things. It is estimated that as many as 50,000 people at a time are waiting to pay and get their “cure.” Since Lembris had repented of the sin in his life his friend asked “Have you been to Loliondo?” Lembris' response?  "I have my own "Loliondo"...at the church of Christ."

Lembris has also left the bad company he used to keep. Recently his former "wild group" invited him to be a part of their activities one night. Lembris refused and later learned that one of the group had killed another member that night.  Who knows what would have happened to him that night had he joined them.  He might have been killed or implicated in the other members' murder. Again, we are reminded of the power of the Gospel to change lives. Who, and how many, are you helping to change this week?

Trina was so excited that Agnes attended the worship services this morning. I preached on "Going to The Great Physician," teaching in great detail concerning the steps of salvation and explaining how baptism is a watery burial. I was hoping that the sermon would prompt Agnes to obey the Gospel. Trina’s next study with her is tomorrow evening.

Genesis chapter 9 ("God's Promises" and "Humans - One Race") was the focus of the Ladies' Bible class this morning.  Beginning this Saturday evening, Trina will begin teaching a class (at our home) on the book of Galatians to our new Christians (Katherine and Theresia) and to anyone else interested.

My Genesis and Greek classes at the ACSOP are going well. Lindsey and Abigail are both taking Genesis and Lindsey is taking Greek. Both are doing very well.

As always, we are thankful for the opportunity to serve here and for the fact that each one of you makes it possible through your prayers and financial support. In closing, this past week my mother had a birthday. We won’t get into telling her age and such because we want to be left in the will! Happy Birthday Mom!

In Christ,

Jimmy, Trina, Lindsey, Abigail, Heather, Candace, Stuart. David, Naomi, Elijah and Matthew

While We Were Sleeping...

The reports each week continue to overwhelm me with the true magnitude of the Extension work. At times, it is difficult for me to wrap my mind around the growth in the Lord’s church on the other side of the world. Personally, it is easy to view the church only from the small corner where I live and attend.

However, while we are sleeping each night, souls are being added to the Lord’s kingdom in Tanzania, Cameroon, Ukraine, Cambodia, Nigeria, Nepal, and other locations. As I read the reports, it reminds me of how great our God is and the work He makes happen, even when I am unaware.

While we are sleeping, men continue diligently in their studies to prepare themselves to serve in the Lord’s kingdom, preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus. They understand the value of each soul.

While we are sleeping, new congregations are being planted as God’s word is taught in at least 11 different languages. These students teach the gospel in their own language to their own people and the kingdom of God grows.

While we are sleeping, the sun shines on another part of the world, opening new doors of opportunity to share hope. While we are sleeping, The Son is changing lives around the world. Read more below.

Final Thoughts

What a way to begin each week. I know it takes time to read through all of the reports. However, when I am finished reading them, I am rejuvenated with the importance and necessity of the Extension Program.

I thank God everyday for the opportunity He has provided me. Sharing in the work with the incredible men and women who make such great sacrifices to help others know Christ, is humbling.

I also thank God everyday for each of you who have also made the financial sacrifices to help keep this work moving forward. With the economic downturns we are experiencing in this country, you always find a way to come through. Thank you! Keep praying. God is answering in awesome ways.

Make a great day.
God bless

Growth And Planting A New Congregation in Cameroon...

Dearest in Christ,

The evangelistic effort of the students is breaking grounds, as they do evangelism every Saturday for two hours from 4 pm to 6 pm. Please remember these brothers in your prayers and also remember the young converts for them to keep growing in Christ. You can see two students, Muofo Bernard and Norbert smiling after baptizing sister Hebsyba into Christ in Wotutu.

May the peace of our Lord Jesus be with you and those around you in Jesus name. It is my prayer that this mail finds you well in all that you do.

Accept greetings from all that make up the CBIW family. We are doing fine by His grace and we are strong to move ahead with what that has been trusted in our hands, to save souls and to nurture souls under our care.

The CBIW during the week was involved in their normal activities, from Monday to Friday. Our short courses are taking us the whole week. I modified the timetable a little. Brother Abasiama teaches for 4 hours in the morning session while I teach for 4 hours in the evening session, so as to finish the course on time, so that we should do some revisions for the students before their short courses exams on Thursday. Thereafter they will leave for their first missionary campaign on Friday to different congregations in Cameroon.

We appreciate God for all that He is doing for the school here in Wotutu and the neighboring villages which we are still mapping out for total evangelism when the students will return in April.

Let me share these few pictures to you about the work.

On the left are our students, eating food in the lecture hall. A family in Wotutu church brought food for them, because they don’t have enough time to prepare food during this short courses which is above the normal six hours to eight hours per day. We are thanking God for using the Wotutu church to be of great help to the students. I pray God will continue to use them.

The slogan WOTUTU FOR CHRIST is still very strong in the minds of the students, and it is a driving force for them to reach every corner in Wotutu with the gospel. It is really true what the Bible says TWO ARE BETTER THAN ONE. The picture on the right shows brother Nicholas baptizing sister Mirabel in Wotutu congregation.

Yesterday, Saturday, the entire congregation with the students organized a five hour prayers and fasting session for the students as they prepare to travel for campaign and also for the visions the school is supposed to attain in Cameroon.

God is doing great things. 8 first time visitors came for worship today in Wotutu, as a result of the students visiting house to house yesterday sharing the word, making friends and inviting them to come for worship. To God be the glory .

Please continue to pray for the safe trip for all the students and the director who will accompany some of them to a virgin land, to see the possibilities of establishing a congregation in one of our student village far from Wotutu.

VISIONS
Continue to see how you can be of assistance to us to accomplish many more dreams.

APPRECIATION
God alone will reward you for all that you are doing to keep the burning flame on. Your support will do great work in the kingdom of God here in Cameroon. By His grace, our 22 students, both French and English will touch 4 regions from next week with the PURE gospel of Christ in Cameroon.

We want to go far, so that others will know the existence of the school and also to help congregations in areas far from the school. We also want all Cameroonians to know THE CAMEROON BIBLE INSTITUTE OF WOTUTU is for all Cameroonians. So let them see how they can be of help in any way for the development of the school.

We continue to say God bless Bear Valley for their vision about the extension schools which is making things easy for all who are zealous and devoted to serve the Lord, to enroll and study to serve. By the time we graduate our first batch many pulpits will change hands in this country, as many of our pulpits are full with untrained preachers, by so doing causing much confusion on the doctrine of Christ.

Please I am appealing to you to stand by us to perfect this change to the glory of God.

Remain blessed and continue to be busy for the Lord, because time is short.

Elangwe and Family
By His grace director CBIW

The Power Of Love...

Dear Supporters, Family, and Friends,

"BY THIS SHALL ALL MEN KNOW THAT YOU ARE MY DISCIPLES, IF YOU LOVE ONE ANOTHER" (John 13:35). We had a great example concerning this principle this morning. Last year, a Christian at Kisongo named Rubin, committed suicide. Rubin's father attended services this morning and invited the "leaders" of the church to come to his house to study with him. He told one of the men that "because of the love that was shown to his family (during their time of grief) that he wanted to learn about this Christianity." Several of the denominational churches had invited him to be a part of them but he refused. His statement should be a real "wake-up" call to Christians. People are watching us to see if we practice what we preach.

Jimmy's study on Saturday (with Lembris and Rosemary) had to be cancelled due to the fact that the translator was out-of-town. However, Rosemary attended Trina’s Child-Training class that day. The attendance was down some but there is a great "core-group" of women who are dedicated to learning how to "train up their children in the way they should go."

On Friday, Katherine and Therasia were both present for our on-going study of how we got the Bible. When I announced that we had completed our study (on the subject at hand), Katherine became concerned because she thought it was our very LAST study. When asked their opinion as to the subject matter or choice of Scripture they wanted to study next week they replied, "It doesn't matter as long as we are learning from God's Word."

More terrific news: Agness attended Bible class and worship services this morning. Our last two scheduled studies did not work out due to different reasons. Our translator talked with Agness after services to soon re-schedule the study.

Recently, we learned that an older Maasi woman who faithfully attends services, is not yet a Christian. Since she understands her Maasi language better than Swahili, it seemed better to ask one of our Maasi Christians (one of our guards, Loshea) to teach her instead of myself and a Swahili translator. We will keep you updated on that.

In the Ladies' Bible class, we found many good lessons and applications in Genesis chapter 8: "Then God remembered Noah." Going through Genesis is helping these ladies build a foundation.

While studying through this book of beginnings, there were a few chapters that have not been discussed in class.  We asked them to simply read them at home (for example, chapter 5 which lists the genealogy of Adam).

It is so encouraging to know that so many of you are praying for these new Christians and non-Christians who are seeking the truth.  We all should know how powerful prayer is. Thank you for all you do to make the work here possible.

In Christ,

Jimmy and Family

The Joy Of Growth... God Is Blessing Tanzania

Greetings Fellow Workers:

What a joy it is to greet you all in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Today is His Day, a day we can all come together as His family to worship the one and only true and living God. Today in Arusha we were blessed with a great Bible lesson by our brother Christopher Mwakabanje and a supper sermon from our brother David Kalaba. It is so wonderful to be part of a worship where we start on time and we pay little attention to the end time. We sing every verse of almost every song, and with many of the Ki-Swahili songs we sing each verse twice. When worship was over and we had prayed for the seven souls  who responded to the invitation, one (John Sulle) surrendering his life to God and was baptized into Christ (Rom. 6) they made the announcements. At the end of the announcements, we sang two more songs, every verse, it was simply the best!

This past week was such a delight. I was blessed to visit with a number of our evangelists who reported much good news in their respective works. In the two months Stephanie and I were away, souls were saved in the Kioga, Kisongo, Arusha, Maji ya Chai, Manyire, Mearoni, Ushirombo, Monduli, Monduli Juu, Mbauda, Kwarombo congregations as well others. The work of the Kingdom continues to grow and grow as the Lord continues to bless His servants here in TZ.

With your continue prayers, God’s continued blessings, and with the united efforts to all the co-workers in the Lord’s Church here in Tanzania, many souls will continue to come to know God as their God and Jesus as their Savior!

Request: Thank you Brian Horner for the donation of 150 glass communion cups. Brothers and Sisters we need 150 more. Can you help? If so, please let me know!

Also, campaign time is upon us. We would like to purchase 1,000 Bibles, English and Ki-Swahili for use throughout this year. If you would like to help in the effort, you can send your gifts to the Kensington Woods Church and mark your gift “Bibles for Africa” they will insure the funds get to us. Thank you all and God bless your kindness and generosity.

Note: $5 will put the Bible in the hands of one soul! $50 will put God’s Word in the hands of 10 souls! $500 will bless the lives of no less than 100 lost souls and some will become saved children of God!

We close with joy and gratitude in our hearts, for the life God has blessed us with, for the friends and co-workers God has blessed us with, and most of all for the spiritual blessing we share in Christ Jesus. To God be all the glory, great things He has and He continues to do through the faithful few.

In Him,
Cy & Stephanie

The Mountain Of The Lord...

Nepal, located between China and India, is home to about 23 million people. Eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains are found in Nepal. Mt. Everest alone contains 240 peaks over 20,000 feet above sea level. It is a scenic land popular with tourists and adventurers.

However, Jerry Bates and I left the USA Jan. 13 because of another mountain, referred to in scripture as “the mountain of the Lord’s house,” (Isa; 2; Micah 4).  Both these contemporary prophets picture people of all nations going up the mountain of the Lord to be taught of God and walk in His ways.

This passage prophesies, or prefigures the house, kingdom or church of the Lord composed of all nations. It is a description of God’s blessings through Christ and of world evangelism. After spending a night in Delhi, India, we flew to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, a city of 3 million. Kathmandu has become a center of evangelism for the country of Nepal.

Jerry Golphenee, a dentist, and his wife have lived in Kathmandu for 14 years. Though he helps people through his dental practice, his greater service is in guiding them to blessings in Jesus Christ. Jerry recognized a need for the Nepali Christians to be trained to teach their own people.

As a result of Jerry’s efforts, Nepali brethren, together with the Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver, began the Nepal Center for Biblical Studies the first week of January, 2010. Gajendra Deshar and Jerry Golphenee teach most of the classes, but are increasingly assisted by other brethren. Gajendra is also the Director.

The students attend classes for about 88 weeks of comprehensive Bible study and training for two years. On weekends they assist local congregations by teaching classes, preaching, and helping to establish programs for church growth. Most Nepalis are all extremely poor and their abilities to earn a living are limited. Therefore, plans are being made to give each student the tools to be able to provide adequately for himself and his family. Some of the men who live in the rural areas will receive “gifts” and training of livestock and agriculture methods. Others who live in urban areas will receive appropriate vocational training, such as plumbing, solar energy, computers, welding, etc. Each man receiving a “gift” will be required to “share his gift” with another Christian family within the first year of his work. This vocational training is critical so that the gospel can spread and the church, with very limited resources, will not be burdened.

People will continue to come to Nepal to see the beauty of its mountains, some to back-pack, a few to try to scale the heights of even Mt. Everest. That is all temporary and temporal, however. Of far greater importance is to see the people of Nepal, who have been wandering aimlessly in the wilderness of false hope, now be able reach the heavenly heights in and through Jesus Christ.

Report of Bear Valley Extension in Nepal
Every year in Nepal there is a five week national holiday (called Dashain) sometime in late September and most of October. The exact dates are determined by a Hindu priest according to the full moon. The students went home on September 24 and returned to school at the end of October. This was their first holiday and home visit since the school opened on January 4, 2010.

During August and September we spent some time discussing and planning how the students could encourage, teach and motivate their brothers and sisters at their home congregations. This was to be a family visit and also a spiritual mission outreach. Our students went to their villages high in the mountains to the north, low in the jungles to the south, east to a large city and just outside Ring Road right here in Kathmandu. This outreach touched much of Nepal.

In addition to the students doing the Lord’s work in various villages, three men from Kathmandu went out to four areas {3-5 days each area} to assist the students in their evangelism and to strengthen the members. Gajendra Deshar, the school director, Kirish Maharjan and Deepak Deshar were these three men who spent about 50 hours on buses, slept in strange beds or on the floor, and labored to train and guide the students in a joint effort to mature the Lord’s church in Nepal. They were warmly and lovingly received and begged to return by grateful brothers and sisters. This is one of our major goals becoming a reality—Nepali leaders will evangelize Nepal.

Donnie Bates arrived Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, attended service in a Tamang village on Sunday morning {after an hour’s “jeep ride” and a half-mile uphill walk}, and also preached Sunday evening at the Nepal Center for Biblical Studies. On Monday morning he began his classes on prayer. Don Prather was our first guest teacher in July, and Donnie was the second. Their excellent teaching, their example of love and service, and the inspiration from the supporting and contributing congregations have touched the minds and hearts of the church in Nepal.

Jerry Bates and Gary Fallis came January 15, 2011 and shared the teaching for one week. Jerry taught about the organization and worship of the church in the morning. Gary taught about the establishment of the church in the afternoon. They were here in the coldest part of the year, with no heat in the hotel or in the school. Despite the cold, they taught clearly and reinforced their teaching by discussion with ample opportunity for questions. The students bonded with them from the very first day.

We had an evangelistic campaign three weeks after Jerry and Gary left. The results were good, and we have plans for another in April. This time we will walk three to four miles in the low jungle area to reach a village that has an attendance of about 70 local villages every Sunday.

The progress of our seven students has been very encouraging. In a country of low literacy, where memorization is the educational standard and accepting what your superior teaches without question, one of our goals was to help the students know “how to learn.” Men who have been preachers for many years are saying, “I want to learn to preach sermons like these students give.”

—Gajendra Deshar

God Is Able
Last September at the Bear Valley Retreat in Denver, CO, we focused on Eph. 3:20. As 2010 comes to an end, I can say that I have seen God’s unmatched power work through His servants to produce fruits “abundantly beyond all that we ask or think”. We have a long way to go. There is much more to accomplish. Because of the efforts of too many to name in America, joined with the work of many in Nepal, and blessed by the power of a gracious God, loving Savior, and guidance of the Holy Spirit, we have made a great start and are headed in the right direction. Please remember us in your prayers.

Cold Weather, Baptisms, and Birthdays

Greetings dear brethren,

February for our Institute was quite eventful. First of all, a few words about the weather. During the last three weeks in Ukraine we have been having some low temperatures (15-25 below zero in Celsius). It is not extremely low temperature but added to the high humidity it is hard to withstand this cold. Due to this it was rather cold in the building but we hope that March will be warmer.

Recruiting events
On first Sunday in February some students and I went to the church of Christ in Donetsk (Petrovsky district). It’s one of the largest congregations numerically. They have three elders, some deacons and preachers. We were able to do the BV presentation and establish a good connection with this congregation.

Also during this month we were able to visit church of Christ in Rubezhnoe (Lugansk region). It is a home congregation for our second year student Anatoly Chebotar. I preached there at Sunday service and also told them about the BV work. Some men were interested in our Institute. Please pray for our prospective students.

In the beginning of March our students will go to the conference in Kiyv and we made arrangements with the stuff of the event to give them the floor and do our presentation.

I assume that information about our Institute is available to all churches of Christ in Ukraine. We try and tell about our work and encourage Christians who want to serve in the Lord’s Kingdom to come to us.

Time after classes in the Institute
Our students have already established some traditions and thanks to them they are able to feel like a part of big family. One of these traditions is birthday parties. This month we had 3 of them, including a birthday of the Instructor. In February we congratulated Stas and Helen as well as our Instructor Albert.

Also we have a very nice time at the gym. If you have never seen men and women playing soccer together you have to come to Ukraine. Also in my opinion we have very powerful, interesting and edifying youth group meetings that take place in our building. For a time being there had been mostly our students present but recently to our great joy some young people to Gorlovka joined us.

On February 14th the central congregation in Gorlovka baptized two young men Bogdan and Aleksey. They obeyed the Gospel and brother Stas baptized them. Also we had evangelical events on February 14th and 22nd.

At present, brothers Viktor Semikoz, Albert Bagdasaryan and I are teaching. The first year class has 1 and 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles and Minor Prophets. The second year has 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus and Hebrews.

We also have sad news about our first year student Alexander. We had to let him go due to his unchristian lifestyle.  First of all, he failed more than half of the courses he took. Secondly, he continued to live in sin (smoking, alcohol and constant lying). After numerous talks to him we had to make him leave the program. Please pray that he repents and stays in the church.

If you have comments, questions or suggestions I am always ready to hear you out. Thank you, brethren, for your support and your prayers. We try very hard to make sure that the Lord’s money is used in the right way. Paul was very appreciative of the work that had been done for him in Macedonian churches (2 Cor. 8:3). We too are very thankful for the opportunity to train the church leaders for the congregations in Ukraine.

Your brother in Christ,

Dennis.

Nigerian Growth Through Suffering...

Beloved,

Students go out every weekend and come back with good news.

I met well with brother Douglas at Ibadan on 15th February 2011. There I was given an opportunity to speak during a seminar organized by one new church the next day, 16th February 2011. I spoke after brother Douglas' speech and our Lord added one soul to the church. It was interesting. Douglas is really good. He payed for my trips to Ibadan and back home. He even supported my leadership seminars financially and gave me a carton of complete small bibles for my new converts. He welcomed me graciously, received my reports and demonstrated fatherly love. I think he should have gone back to the States today.

When I came back from Ibadan, instead of going to the new church, I went to the church at Ameata-Ozizza (the church that a preacher messed up) with four strong youths. Our ministerial students visit this area on weekend. It was amazing to the youths. The youths saw what I and some ministerial students have been suffering to reach lost souls. They were touched and were persuaded to confess that they will be glad to be going out with me. Beloved, I was really glad and encouraged to receive the reactions of the youths last Sunday and hope to achieve my target of persuading the young men to love the profession of preaching and working for God. Continue to pray for that. However, it cost me much to go out with them such far. Many of them were fainting in hunger. They have to be fed including myself and fueling. Worship there was fantastic and brethren at Amaeta were highly encouraged with the efforts of bringing young men to such a far country, knowing what it means to visit that area.

For my family, the CSMT church and CSMT everything is okay. I only had a little breakdown after the far journey to Ibadan but I got well on Saturday to start work on Sunday. My family is still looking onto God for His blessing of baby from now. Please pray for my wife's safe delivery this month or next.

We made it out to the new church today. Our consistent efforts are to solidify the faith of the new converts including the converted Pastor. It may be very dangerous to convert and fail to do a reasonable work on their faith. The efforts are yielding much fruits. Today, we had ONE BAPTISM and the new church called us back to the place of worship to entertain us after the baptism. That was the first time since we have been going out for missionary work.

Most interestingly, my first son who is about five years old went with us and demonstrated the spirit of a missionary to be. I was personally glad for him because that is what I am praying for, willing son(s) to take my place in the gospel ministry when I am no more. Even last Sunday, he went out with us for a missionary trip to Uburu Ohaozara Church of Christ- about 3 hours journey from Abakaliki. Join me to pray that God will hear my prayers for the willingness of my son(s) to continue the gospel work I do.

My car is becoming very old that it always keeps us stranded on the way almost every time because of one fault or the other. The car has served me in the work for six good years. It goes to any interior part of the Ebonyi state and beyond. I pray that God will help me to replace it with new one for His work. Help me to pray as I make personal arrangements.

Continue to pray for the work. The Lord is wonderfully great with what we try to do for Him in our areas. We pray that the supporters of His work should be highly recognized by Him. Let all that supporters who secretly support God's work be rewarded openly by God in Jesus name, Amen.

Reuben in His Service.

Nepali Campaign...

Dear respected brothers in Christ,

Greetings to you all in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May grace of God, love peace and blessings are always with you.

Every day is the happiest and blessings each day for God’s people in His kingdom. We all are using our good time and effort in our school. The month of February was so good to all our students and other local congregations. All our students are studying hard in classes. They are doing their best in their learning process. They are progressing much. They are improving every day. Brother Bharat, Dev, Suka, Surya, Jeet and Surya are fine with their families.

Brother Mike York and Gage Coldwater had visited NCBS in February. Their participation and classes went much better than our expectation. Lessons are very simple, practicable and useful to all congregations. We had gone for campaign work on 4th - 8th at Tanahu district (out of Kathmandu valley), which is almost 6 hours by bus travel. We all students, staffs and some of the valley preachers had work together for that campaign work. It was really encouraged to all.

After three weeks we are going to give three weeks holidays for our students. On that holiday they will spend with their family and local congregation. All their children’s school will have holidays in this early summer. So that, there will be much benefit for them to be with their children and family members. They will do some of the useful Bible study program in their local congregation. Please kindly pray for our students and their family members.

Thank you.

God's Increase To Chimala Evangelism

I returned to the Chimala Mission after a three-week stint in the States conducting gospel meetings and raising money for the Chimala Bible Institute. One of the main focuses of CBI is evangelism.

The students visited Sumbawanga and baptized a total of ten people. In Ilemi, three people were baptized. Two people were baptized in Welu and one person in Mbuyuni. A total of eighteen people were baptized.

Every weekend, a group of students goes out to a different village with an established congregation for the purpose of evangelism. The students go from house to house encouraging people to come to the Saturday night gospel meeting. They also hold Bible studies and invite the villagers to the Sunday morning worship service.

In January, the students visited Sumbawanga and baptized a total of ten people. In Ilemi, three people were baptized. Two people were baptized in Welu and one person in Mbuyuni. A total of eighteen people were baptized.

In February, three people were baptized in Vwawa and three people in Matebete. One person was baptized in Uzinje and five more people were baptized in Sumbawanga. A total of fourteen people were baptized.

These efforts resulted in a combined total of 32 baptisms within two months. It is evident the student's work in evangelism and their application of their studies at Chimala Bible Institute is very fruitful.

CBI is currently conducting its two-week short courses. This week, Brent is teaching John while I teach Christian Ethics. Next week, Brent will teach Christian Evidences and I will teach I, II Timothy and Titus. The students are thoroughly enjoying these classes and look forward to the new quarter beginning March 14th.

A typical Wednesday evening is likewise evangelistic. I went out on March 2nd to the Chosi A congregation with the short-course teacher, Brent Smith, Rebecca Benson, the CBI Librarian, and Atupikisye Mwakyasima, a woman student at CBI. Lai, a CBI instructor, preached a sermon on the oneness of baptism, while Rebecca and Atupikisye taught the children. Fifteen children were present and eager to listen. Atupikisye masterfully taught the creation account in Genesis 1, thoroughly engaging the young children in her lesson. It was her first time teaching a chidren's class.

Continue to remember us in your prayers as we train the preachers and teachers of the next generation in Tanzania and Malawi.

God Bless,

Hard Work, Sacrifice, Weddings... Just Cambodia

Dear fellow workers in Christ,

I humbly greet you with information concerning God's work in Siem Reap for the month of February. God continues to bless this work by adding to His church two more souls for this month. Not only does He add numerically, but He adds spiritually as well. I am witnessing the fruit of the Spirit bearing in our brothers and sisters in Christ here in Cambodia.

This month, the students from Siem Reap, along with church members at Takam village got together to fix the road that leads to where the church meets at Takam village. Every year, the rainy season washes away the road which makes it difficult  for the villagers to travel. So we got together and dug dirt from the side of the road and transport it to fill the huge holes. It took us two weekends to complete the road. We had men, women, and children all helping to get it done for the benefit of the community.

We definitely fulfilled Matthew 5:16! The village chief there appreciates our hard work and praises the church for it, giving glory to God. Choeuy is doing a wonderful job at Takam. He is to be commended for his hard work and sacrifice. His father's death is what motivates him to continue to preach the gospel to those who have not obeyed. He is a very mature young man and a powerful preacher of God's word.

Sokchea is doing a wonderful job at Leang Dai as well. I don’t know if you all know how much Sokchea sacrifices to accept the challenge of working in Leang Dai. He had an opportunity to work in Siem Reap where it's modern and easy living, but instead chose to do "mission" work in the village. He is applying what he learned from IBISR and is immersing himself in the 'village culture' so that they can accept him. He's been a great example as God's faithful servant and doing wonderful things for the Lord there. He is planning to be engaged to his long time girlfriend Pisey this month so please keep him in your prayers.

Speaking of marriage, Darat, one of our staff will be marrying Saray next month! We are very excited. I can go on and on about each one of our leaders and the good work that they do but you just have to come witness it yourself to see what God is doing here in Cambodia. We are growing according to plan. If we continue to grow at this rate, we will have sound elders, teachers and preachers in 20 years!  I can’t wait to see this happen twenty years from now.

I am so blessed to be a part of this wonderful work and I thank God and you all for your support in making this a reality. I hope and pray that we can continue our partnership for 20 plus more years. Speaking of growth, our staff will have the opportunity to grow by participating in our 2nd annual lectureship that will take place on March 26-27.  This is part of the local congregation's work in edifying the body of Christ. I can’t wait to report of the outcome to you all next month!

More exciting news is that my parents from America have come to visit me and their grand daughter! I had the chance to spend about a week with them in Phnom Penh and it was truly great to see them again. God is so good to me and my family. As they will stay for about 3 months. I am back in Siem Reap now. Even though I know the work in Siem Reap will continue to operate as normal when I am not there, I still miss my family in Christ in Siem Reap. Thank you all for taking the time to read of the work here in Cambodia. I hope that you will check back next month and continue to see God's wonderful work here in this little third world country!

Three Congregations, One Country...Cambodia

Greeting from Siem Reap Cambodia

I would like to share some informations about the work in Cambodia.

Leang Dai

The church in Leang Dai is doing alright and we are very proud of a new Christian brother over there who was baptized about a month ago. He is studying hard from the bible and teaching the word of God to his friends and crew who work with him in a brick factory.

He always gets some questions from his friends and then he comes by to see Sokchea and Revy trying to get answers to answer to them.

Keep your pray for one the members in Leang Dai. Her name is Srey Mao who has suffered of her illness for over a year and now she feel better from day to day after we took her to one of the hospitals in Phnom Penh.

Now she is recommended by the doctor to go to see the doctor once a month every month.

Takam

The church there is also doing alright. Recently, Cheuy asked us as the church and school from the city to participate in helping to build the road after it was destroyed by the flood during the rainy season. The head of village over there requested the local church there to help, which just a good thing to help because it is a benefit to the church there and also a good example to the people there.

Siem Reap City

The church is doing fine. Now we encourage to all of the members to participate in spreading the gospel to friends neighbors and relatives as well. By doing that we got some good results from our orphanage (Hannah's hope) that orphans invited their friends to come to church and there are some young ladies who became Christians.

I have scheduled to teach them every Sunday evening also. Now I am working to contact another orphanage just cross from the house I rent trying to volunteer to teach English and especially the word of God.

Also on 26-27 of March we will have an annual of our lectureship that would be in the school building in Siem Reap. We invited the leaders of the church of Christ from Phnom Penh and TNT as well to participate.

All in all we have lots of work to prepare for and especially the evangelism.

In His name

Chann
