Uganda School Of Evangelism Nears Graduation...

Dear brethren,

Uganda School of Evangelism
I am very sorry to have not been up to date with my reporting. Let me hope that I will be able to continue communicating very often as possible. We are doing fine here in Uganda and the Lord is blessing us very much. Margaret is doing fine here at the school making sure that everyone gets something to eat and also that the school compound is clean, plus all the dormitory and all classes. The front roof of the dormitory needs some replacement, the cement ceiling is too heavy for it. We need to replace the whole front with the ceiling boards. The cost is estimated to be 1,777,600/= $750 dollars.

We have ended our short course and on March 3rd the long course of the last quarter of the second year is beginning. Ouma Christopher is going to teach the “Beatitudes,” “Anti-ism” and the book of “Revelation” in the English Class, and Samson Omutele is going to teach the same subjects in the Kiswahili Class. Ojiambo Morris going to teach “The Millennial Mania.” Peter Ambaka is going to be teaching “Is God the author of the Bible” and “The Synoptic Gospel.” Graduation date is still on the May 9th 2014. You are all welcome to our third graduation.

Our Solar System is doing fine as of now. The last time problem was caused when someone turned off the a small button behind the inverter. We have piped the water up to the fish ponds, but this has been done late. We are likely to lose all our fish due hot weather here. This year the wet land is very dry. We can only pump water for an hour that is between 12 and 1 pm. Another problem is that the pipe we used is small and amount of water little. We have two more holding ponds of 12m x18m and another 9m x 17m and now we are digging another one which is 42m x 20m. The reserve pond which we had dug is one meter deep. We have gone as deep as two meters now after the advise we got from the Chinese technicians who were brought to our school to teach us more about fish farming by the Busia District Local Government. They also taught us how we can plant rice in the fish pond and harvest rice as we harvest fish. After having planned where to put all these, we have started fencing. The fencing area will be bigger than we had estimated at first but we shall see what to do as we go on.

Church of Christ Nandwa
The attendance is now ranging from 50 to 60 every Sunday. As all students of the Uganda School of Evangelism become members of Nandwa congregation and they are now using six students in evangelism. Nandwa has sent the remaining students to villages where the school had planted congregations. We have seen that it is not good for the school to send workers, but the congregation helping weak congregations with preachers and teachers of the gospel. As a school we have been getting problems with those congregations asking a lot of things from the school, some thinking that it is the headquarters where all problems should be taken. The Nandwa congregation’s men business meeting has selected four committees to take care of her daily work. We have now the financial committee, benevolence committee, education committee and evangelism committee. This year five people have been baptized. Margaret and I have started a kindergarten school which is being housed by the Nandwa church building. The school began on January 12th 2014. We have now 45 children. Every one has paid their fees for this term. We have sponsored one lady from Nandwa congregation to go for nursery school teacher course. She attends class on Friday from 2 pm to 5:30 and on Saturday from 9 am to 5:30 pm. She will be there for two years.

Church of Christ Namungodi
Emmanuel Mawa and Edith my daughter are working with Namungodi congregation. They have now meeting 10 people every Sunday. They have purchased a church plot and right now they are making bricks. They have so far made 7,000 bricks they want to make 10,000 bricks before the burn them. These few people are working very hard to make sure they have their own building. If there is any one who can help them with some money for buying 30 iron sheets of gauge 30 at 26,000 UGX and each with 20 bags of cement, they will appreciate it.

Church of Christ Bukalikha
Andrew Wanyama Tanga, a member of Nandwa congregation and a student of Uganda School of Evangelism, goes to Bukalikha village every Sunday to help them. He rides his bike for about 26 km round trip every Sunday. This congregation is meeting in my sister’s home. They are about 8 members meeting. Most of them are women and school children.

Church of Christ Sirere
I helped this congregation purchase a small plot on which there was an old house, which I hear fell down. Wandera Peter, a student of Uganda School of Evangelism who was sent to school by this congregation, visits this congregation every Sunday. This year one person has been baptized.

Church of Christ Haboomi
Kizito Joel, a student of Uganda School of Evangelism, is still visiting this village. There was an old lady who had given the church a place to build a grass and mud building for the church to worship from there. Then members contributed the poles and labour. I helped them with the grass to cover the whole roof. The son of this woman did some evil in the village and he was convicted and jailed for a year. When he came from prison he wanted the church to pay money for the area the mother had given to the church. When the brethren did not pay, he demolished the building and chased away the church. They are meeting in the home of one brother now. They bring their cries to the school for help and this makes the school look like the missionary society, instead of the church. After graduation, when Joel will be going back to his congregation in Kenya, that congregation will have no one to help them grow in the Lord. When there will be new students who ware  members of Nandwa congregation, then the Nandwa congregation will send men to that village to continue the Lord’s work.

Church of Christ Bulukuyi
This church is growing in the Lord after some up and downs. Last year they lost one of their members, brother Ouma Amborosi. This brother died on December 29th 2013. He died at the age of 82 years. He was once a student of Uganda School of Evangelism, but due to his weak sight, he was asked to withdraw from school as he could not see well on the board. Brother Olendo James, who dropped from school last year to take care of his family needs and later left the church, has been restored and now he is the one helping to teach that congregation the word of God. Brother Oswad, a first year student, started going there every Sunday when he is at school. The Nandwa Church of Christ will be sending him there this month if they will have means of supporting him with transportation and also be with him in all his small needs as the school does not have any funds to send students in the villages. It is my opinion that if there could be anyone in need of helping our students who are members of Nandwa Congregation to evangelize, he could send that help to the financial committee which is overseen by the business committee of all men of the Nandwa Congregation.

Church of Christ Nekuku
Brother Bonex Odongo, a student of the Uganda School of Evangelism and former member of  Bulukuyi church of Christ, has been traveling with his wife from Nekuku village to Bulukuyi village which is about ten kilometers, for the last  two years. After coming to school and starting to share the word of God with his friends of Nekuku village, two people were baptized and the church started meeting in that village. They are currently meeting in Bonex’s home under a tree.

We wish you well and may the Lord bless you as you continue in his vineyard.

Yours
Francis Wechesa

Classes Coming To An End, Campaigns Begin...

Dearest in Christ,

Greetings from Cameroon. We do hope this report finds you all in good health and a sound faith. We are doing better in health. My wife, who was sick, is getting much better. Thank you for your prayers. Some students who were not sound keep getting better as we continue to handle their situations with sister Ruth, the nurse.

Last week in CBIW went on well as our students have already finished one week of intensive short courses in “Advanced Hermeneutics.” They will continue this week with “2 Corinthians” and then they will move out for campaign.

Evangelist Norbert Bekwike, a student of our school who graduated as the best student during the alpha batch, was invited to come and teach a short course after almost two years in the field preaching and teaching. He did a great job and the current students were impressed by his passion, zeal and love for the work of an evangelist. Many desire to be like him, but more like Christ, as they prepare themselves for ministry in few months.

Evangelism is our mission and it is part of us. As the week draws near to Friday our hearts go out for souls in different communities that we must reach with the pure word of God. Every week the demands for our students to come over to different locations and help in evangelism and nurturing is increasing. This weekend we returned from 10 different villages to reach out and nurture congregations. This week another village felt the touch of the gospel in Mabonji village. The church of Christ was revived and two new precious souls obeyed the gospel. This village is not too far from Wotutu. Keep them in your prayers. I stood with a lady that admired the truth and said “I want to be a pastor.” That gave me more opportunity to give her the insight of the Bible concerning the role of women. The parents were all listening to me while they prepared their food. A total of 4 souls were added during the weekend with 10 restorations in the Mabonji congregation. Koba and Dikome continue to thank God for our efforts to make it to them every week. This weekend the student that went to Dikome and Koba were both soaked with rains as they used the motor cycle to get there. Rain met them on the way and they could not continue with the bad road and at night. They slept in another village in the chief’s house. What a God we serve. They are back weak and tired, but we have some drugs on campus that they will take to regain their energy. Thanks for making all of this possible at our disposal. God bless you all.

Sister Pauline Mbong continues to listen to our early morning radio program “Back to the Bible.” She listened and started visiting us, not on weekly basis, but today she obeyed the gospel after worship. Before obeying the gospel she came to me and asked what she will prepare as food, drinks and a fee to pay before her baptism. I told her “Jesus paid it all. You have nothing to pay for, just come with an open heart and God will receive you.” She was amazed as compared to how much she spends in her Roman Catholic denomination. Keep her in your prayers to keep growing. She is 65 years old now.

She smiled after her baptism. One of our students, Chijioke, held her hands to stand. In Christianity we need one another to hold our hands and help someone stand up for the Lord. That is what is expected of all of us. Keep this lady in your prayers and the church to be there for her to help her grow to maturity.

Plans
1) One more short course and the students will be off for campaign. Keep them in your prayers as they complete their first quarter in their second year of studies.

2) Entrance exams into CBIW for the GAMMA batch will come up on the 26th of April. Keep that in your prayers so that God will help us select those He has selected already for His work.

Appreciations
Our hearts are full with gratitude. Whenever we have opportunity to say thank you for your prayers, love and support for the work that is going on here. We lift up your names to God daily on your behalf. God bless you, watch over you and give you His peace in your going out and coming in. Share this report with others and remain blessed.

An Ending As Good As The Beginning...

The week is ended as it began with wonderful news about the growth in the Lord’s kingdom. The reports this week share exciting news about the work of students who are proclaiming the gospel of Jesus and influencing souls eternally. We never tire in hearing about the ways God continues to give the increase and bless the work.

The week ahead brings an end to the third quarter of the academic year in Denver. This means that in one more quarter we will see another group of students graduate from their intense studies over the past two years and enter the ministry. We will share more in the weeks ahead about these men, their families, and their plans for serving in the ministry after they graduate. Their initial plans have them locating from the West coast to the East coast and as far away as Malawi.

Several of the locations where we partner in extension training also have graduations scheduled over the next few months. Seeing the development of these students and witnessing their efforts to glorify God through the preaching of the gospel continues to be exciting. We look forward to reporting more about these graduations and the development of the work in each location.

The development and growth that occurs each year through the graduates who enter into ministry excites everyone. The reports indicate only a few of the ways God is working in the world to reconcile the lost to Him through Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

God is great!

Now on to the other reports...

The Power Of God's Word Cannot Be Denied...

Dearest in Christ,

Greetings from your brothers and sisters here in Wotutu. We are doing much better in health as we continue to take drugs and herbs to help us.

The students of CBIW will commence their short courses tomorrow. Their exams went on well. Keep them in your prayers as they study 2 Corinthians and Advanced Hermeneutics, as a short course.

As I write this report now all students who went out for weekend evangelism to 8 different locations are all back safe and sound. God took us and brought us back with good results from our outreach.

I was part of those who went again to the Koba congregation in my village to revive the congregation that was almost collapsing. Last week, one student went there and this week I accompanied him.

Koba village is my home village. We are struggling with getting the zinc that we shall use on the roof, because the congregation is always disgraced by rain when it meets them during worship.

It is not an easy journey to get to Koba Village. I am having body pains and tiredness because of the trip, but the glory belongs to God for helping me to come back home safe, even though I met my wife sick. Please keep her in your prayers.

I was able to teach the brethren in Koba this morning, encouraging them to keep working from John 9:4. They should not be discouraged as many in the village pass by and laugh at them because of the nature of their worship hall. Some fell away from grace because of this, but some stayed, knowing that Christians can worship any where. Please pray for these brethren who love the Lord but lack many things to make them comfortable in the house of God.

Our presence during the worship today continues to provide encouragement. Oh how I wish we could get a student there weekly that will help change the mentality of the villagers and win some souls to God.

Sister Kathy obeyed the gospel after she accused the student that went last week. She was carried away by philosophy that she was learning from college, so she was not ready to reason from the scriptures and try to understand what the scriptures are saying about God’s existence and many other issues. This week I was there and the student, brother Mokwe, continued again with Ps. 14:1. She looked upon her philosophical knowledge as useless. Keep her in your prayers to grow so that many of her friends will come to know the truth and obey it. A total of 5 precious souls and 2 restorations were recorded during our weekend evangelism in Koba, Dikome and Ediki congregations respectively.

The Koba congregation is witnessing growth. Last week they worshiped with 28 and this week they worshipped with 58. It shows a great improvement, as many are eager to listen to us as we move from house to house. I pray we do to Koba as we have done with other congregations by sending students weekly. It will be of great help when the hall under construction is completed. Please keep this work in your prayers.

Plans
1) We are getting more invitations for our students to come over to different congregations to help. Our hands are short to meet up.

2) Next month our students will go for their first campaign of the year that will show marking time towards their graduation come this year on the 11th of December. Keep our thoughts and visions in your prayers.

Appreciations
God bless you for all that you are doing for His work here. Keep on because only God can give you the best reward. We appreciate you from our hearts and we pray God continues to bless you and watch over you, the congregation, and your entire family.

Do your best to share this report with others.

Inter-Congregational Activities Promote Outreach In Togo...

The Nyiveme congregation was blessed with eight baptisms in January. CBS student, Djambacou, was baptized as well as the wife of student, Assuka. The Lord is blessing the Kpalime area churches of Christ through evangelism by students and the weekly radio program.

Kpalime Area ministers and their kids
The Kpalime area churches met to wish each other a happy and a prosperous New Year. The occasion was also used to plan programs for inter-congregational activities.

Wives of Kpalime area preachers
Preacher’s wives also met to launch their annual women’s program.

Rodrigue, instructor at CBS and the preacher at the Avetonu Church of Christ requested the assistance of CBS in a 3 day gospel outreach program. The goal of this program was to strengthen the Atiyi Church of Christ and to win more souls. Evangelists that were present included: Rodrigue, Cephas, Raymond and Jean. Some students who were part of the team were Daniel and Nicodemus. The Alikpoji Church of Christ also participated in this outreach program.

Three congregations to benefit from Church building fund.
It was a great joy to know that brother Walter of the Blanco Church has donated $1,500.00 to help provide a meeting place for three congregations. There are still several more of such congregations needing help. Another couple, Aaron and Brittany Morrison have also adopted two preachers with $100.00 each month and have donated $1,000.00 towards two more church buildings.

Congregations need places to worship
Funds have been disbursed for work to begin on the construction of a meeting place for the Hanyigba and Tutu congregations. The following congregations are also in need of a place to worship: Tsame, Atakpame, Kpadape, Notse, Agoe, Klime, Zomayi, Tugbli, Danyinu.

Note: The Agou congregation has started meeting in a rented building, so the funds will be used by another congregation for now.

The Zomayi congregation is trying to secure land in the area where they meet before the construction can take place. We are therefore providing funds to those who have access to land for construction. The names of preachers who will supported and congregations benefiting from the building fund will be published in my next newsletter.

Meeting place of the Tsame Church of Christ
The Tsame Church of Christ was started by one of our current students. While in the denomination he started five churches. Now he is helping to convert all the churches he had started to become the church of Christ. He is facing a lot of challenges, but is committed to the process. The principal, Cephas, continues to teach these new Christians and those who are yet to baptized. The congregation that meets under bamboo sticks and palm branches are brethren who have renounced denominationalism and have embraced the teachings of the New Testament. Continue to pray for the Tsame Church of Christ. The land on which they are meeting is a half plot that the owner is ready to sell to them but they do not have the funds.

ADOPTION PROJECT
Are you interested in adopting a congregation by supporting the preacher with a $100 each month and helping to build a meeting place at a cost of $500 (Five hundred dollars)? You will receive a monthly report from the preacher and establish communication with the congregation. Some have already joined in this effort. Please join them.

Exciting News Out Of Northern Ghana...

REPORT FROM TAMALE INSTITUTE OF BIBLICAL STUDIES.
As part of the curriculum, Tamale Institute of Biblical Studies embarks on an evangelistic campaign every quarter. For this quarter, Gotaani, a town in the Zabzugu Tatali District of the Northern region, was chosen for the campaign. Gotaani has a young congregation which was started last year by one of the graduates of the Institute, therefore, the evangelical campaign was done there in order to edify the members and also to help win more souls for the Lord.

Students preparing for the Day’s Work.
The students did the campaign under the supervision of brother Agyei Mensah and brother Tony Johnson who are both instructors.

During the 4 day evangelical campaign, all students, during the day embarked on house to house personal work in which they discussed with families “the essence of becoming Christians.” Then, in the evenings, movies on Abraham, the passion of Christ and Jesus story were shown each night after which a sermon was preached. The speakers included Agyei Mensah, Tony Johnson and Ishmael.

Students Sharing the Gospel with the people of Gotaani
By the grace of the Lord, two persons were baptized during the campaign and on Sunday during worship, (10) ten persons responded to the call. In all a total of (12) twelve souls were saved.

The Preacher, Brother Bilaam was very happy about the results of the campaign and promised to make further follow-up since there are hopes of more people being converted.

Students Baptized Those Who Believed
The worship on Sunday was attended by (58) fifty-eight adults and (95) ninety-five children, totaling (153) one hundred and fifty-three congregants.

Brother Daniel Agyei Mensah Baptized One of the Ladies Who Believed The Gospel
Apart from the fact that students had to walk long distances during the campaign, which brought about delays in scheduled activities in the campaign in general was very successful. It is our fervent prayer that the Lord, through our sponsors, provide us with a bus to enhance our activities.

Brother Daniel Agyei-Mensah assisted one of those who accepted the Gospel in baptism. All twelve newly baptized members of Gotaani Church of Christ stood with brother Daniel Agyei Mensah.

Students of TIBS Explaining the Gospel to a listening Crowd
By the grace of the Lord, the team has since returned home safely.

Opportunities Open At Local High Schools In Nigeria...

Dear brethren,

Greetings from your fellow laborers in Nigeria! The staff and students of the Southwest School of Evangelism (SWSE), Ibadan and fellow WBSFUW in Oyo and Osun states, evangelized Felele, Idi-Mango and Amuloko with brother Dele Shotola, the minister of Felele congregation, Ibadan and one of the SWSE 2013 graduates on weekend, February 15, 2014. At the end of the exercise, five WBS students of West Olive church of Christ, Peoria, AZ named Amoo Yemisi, Amoo Comfort, Amoo Deborah, Amoo Emmanuel  and Amoo Lydia from Amuloko village, Akanran Road, Ona-Ara L.G. from one family were baptized.

Brethren, I and brother Kayode Solomon Eniafe and brother Dele Shotola have directed these young converts to be worshipping with Akanran congregation.

Also, we are planning to plant the Lord's church at Idi-Mangoro area. It is challenging-Ibadan due to the way the people in that new area are receptive to the truth.

On Sunday at Onikokoro congregation, Ibadan, brother Arowolo Samuel (SWSE-year 2 student) taught on the “Day and Pattern of NT Worship” while another year 2 student, named Oladokun Samuel, admonished the church from Jeremiah 12:1-2.

At the campus church, brother John Zege Tobi, a year 2 student of SWSE taught “Living for Christ” from Col. 3:1-15, while one of the year 1 students named Gbenga Ilori admonished the church from 2 Tim. 3:1-5.

One of the High Schools visited last week at Ona-Ara local government with WBS correspondence courses is named Badeku High School. They are now inviting our team to be lecturing at the Christian students fellowship every Friday beginning this coming Friday. This now increases our assignment on Friday to two, one at St. Anthony High School, Ikoyi, Osun state and the second one at Badeku in Oyo state.

Brethren, we need your prayers! We also appreciate your love and care. May the Lord of blessing continue to bless all our joint efforts in Christ name, Amen.

Sincerely His & yours,

Makinde Ebenezer Olufemi (Director of studies)
Southwest School of Evangelism (SWSE), Ibadan & Lagos campus, Nigeria

An Overview And Expressed Need In Chimala...

Ephesians 3:20-21 (ASV) "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all generations for ever and ever. Amen."

Overview of our Work
Our whole family is involved in this work here in Chimala. We are truly blessed to be able to be here. Below is an overview of how our famiy is involved with the work at Chimala.

Chad

1.  Preaching the Word of God. Each Sunday, Chad is preaching in various congregations in the Chimala area. He works closely with area congregations to develop leadership, help evangelize communities, and encourage the brethren. During the week, he is normally speaking in one of our daily chapels on the mission. Preaching the Gospel is central to what he is doing in Chimala.

2.  Teaching the Word of God. Chad teaches at our two-year school of preaching training men from Tanzania, Congo, Malawi, etc. He is working hard to train the next generation of preachers and church leaders.

3.  Overseeing all aspects of the Chimala Mission. The Chimala Mission has 6 departments with over 200 employees. It is a large operation! Chad is involved in all of the areas to see that they are on track to meet goals.

Rena

1.  Volunteers with our evangelistic mobile medical clinics. There are several clinics set up in the Chimala area where people can get vaccines, check-ups, pregnancy checks, medicine, etc. This is beneficial because so many people cannot easily get to the hospital for treatment.

2.  Coordinates the domestic side of the Chimala Mission. We have many different visitors at the Chimala Mission and that requires coordination regarding housing, etc. With so many groups coming to the mission, she keeps busy welcoming visitors to Chimala.

3.  Teaches nursing classes at the hospital. She and Cheryl Bode have been giving nursing education classes to the nurses at the Chimala Mission Hospital. This week's class: IV drip rates.

4.  Volunteers as needed at the Hospital. Doing various tasks as needed, she fills a gap that is needed at the hospital.

5.  Home-schools our children. With all that she has to do around the mission, she still home-schools 4 of our children from Kindergarten through 12th grade!

Our children work at the preacher school library, volunteer with our mobile medical clinics, volunteering at the hospital, etc.

We are very thankful for all the prayers and financial support

We Need your Help!
We have committed ourselves to living and working here at Chimala. We are glad to be here but we need your financial assistance to be able to stay here. Costs have increased but our support has not. We are in need of an additional $2,500 a month in support. We rely on you, our brothers and sisters in Christ, to come to our aid and support our work. During our recent furlough, we were blessed with some wonderful one-time funds. We also get a $100/month pledge from one congregation as well as a $500/month work fund pledge for Rena's nursing work. We are very grateful for that support but we still stand in need of personal support.

50/50
We are calling on 50 new congregations and/or individuals who can support us at $50/month. $50/month is not a great amount but when combined with over faithful support, it will allow us to be able to live and work here at Chimala.

We are calling on our brothers and sisters in Christ to help us in our time of need.

If you can help us in our support, please let us know. I will be happy to share our details with you if you have any questions.

Support a Student
There are several students at the secondary school and primary school who are orphans and/or are under-privileged. Our school is one of the best in the area. You can help provide a good education for these kids by helping pay for school fees. You can support a secondary school student for $1,000 for the year and a primary school student for $200 for the year. If you can help, please let us know.

Help get our hospital out of the toilet!

The Chimala Mission Hospital is a rural hospital which struggles at keeping prices low for the surrounding people while at the same time making enough to cover our expenses. It is not always easy. We are starting a fundraising campaign to fix the bathroom facilities at the hospital. You can check out pictures and more information at http://cherylinchimala.blogspot.com/2014/02/help-our-bathrooms-get-out-of-toilet.html.

Micah accidentally injured
While doing some work at the shop, Micah and Dakotah Price were running through the rain. During the run, Micah's hand sustained an injury for which she needed stitches.

Thank you!
Due to your generosity, we were able to provide a motorcycle for an evangelist who travels to various congregations to preach.

Short-Term Workers Arrive In Arusha...

Dear Supporters, Family and Friends,

We hope this update finds you well and thankful for your blessings! We are all doing fine. All around is green due to rains every day and sometimes twice a day. Four short-term workers have arrived: Dennis Dickey and his daughter, Mariah, Brian Howard and Nathan Bailey. All are from Muncie, Indiana and are excited about being here and working in the area of the new church plant, Njiro Chini. This past week, Dennis and Brian were tag-team teaching the Gospel of John to the second year students. Mariah and Nathan have also helped Jimmy, Lindsey, and Abigail organize the ACSOP library.

Please accept our apologies for the absence of pictures in this update. There are plenty we would like to include but our time is limited. Today at Kisongo, there were several visitors (6 to 8) attending worship. Many were new workers at the A-Z Mosquito Net factory. Two were neighbors that Heather and Candace invited. These two girls, Tina and Keshia, are boarding in a house behind us with 7 other girls, all who are students at Braeburn secondary school. Jimmy continued teaching the men and women I, II and III John. He also preached this morning on “How Does Scripture Describe a Good Man?”

Awhile back, we had the pleasure of meeting the Director of “Pippi House,” a Foundation for Girls. They are taking care of girls between the ages of 5 months – 24 years. He wrote recently asking if I had any English books (grammar books and any books written in English) to donate so they could have more material in which to practice reading. We have about 50 pounds of books to give them, including many Apologetics Press books and religious magazines and lesson books. What a great opportunity to share the Gospel.

Our sincere thanks to all who have given to our travel fund! $5300 has been received, leaving a balance of $9200. We are hoping to leave in May. If you or your congregation could help us reach our goal, we would be very grateful.

Last year, Jimmy accepted an invitation to speak on the Faulkner Lectureship (March 2-6) in Montgomery, AL. Thank you for praying for his safe travels, plus that of the Stafford Family who have begun their reporting tour in the states.

“If we work upon marble, it will perish; if we work on brass, time will efface it. If we rear temples, they will crumble to dust. But if we work on men’s immortal minds, if we impress on them high principles…and love for their fellow-men, we engrave on those tablets something which no time can efface, and which will brighten and brighten to all eternity.” ---Daniel Webster

Class Continues At The Andrew Connally School Of Preaching...

The second week into the new school year the students and I are growing more comfortable with each other. The language barrier is a perpetual challenge as even the English speaking students struggle a little with my southern accent. Those who speak English still do so with heavy Swahili pronunciations. For example, a Tanzanian friend recently expressed that he thought that “bird," “bed," and "beard" were all pronounced the same. I can't imagine how laughable my efforts at Swahili must seem! But we are making progress with each session. I look forward to continuing to walk with these men along their path to becoming preachers. I hope that God has great things in store for them.

Devo
We enjoyed the privilege of hosting the missionaries' weekly devo at our house again this week. One of the visiting campaigners, Nathan Bailey, was gracious enough to provide the lesson for us continuing this month's theme of Love.

Njiro Update
We continued to do Bible studies this week in the Njiro Chini area where a new church has been planted. The baby congregation has had it's first baptism and is gaining more visitors each week. Gasper Maurice, one of the Andrew Connally School of Preaching graduates from this past November, has been working tirelessly in the new church plant by setting up, conducting, and translating for Bible studies. He is a great example of what we hope for from our graduates, and I expect him to continue serving well as the evangelist for the new church.

Eva Teaching Sunday School
Part of the goal of a missionary is to replace themselves. With that in mind, Tiffany has been working with a couple of the ladies at Ilkuirei to teach them how to teach children's Bible class. Eva has been translating for Tiffany, thereby observing how she teaches. Next Sunday, Eva is planning to teach by herself for the first time. We are excited about this step for her, and for the future of the congregation's children's class.

Expansion And Growth Bring Encouragement...

The work of extension training is expanding. We are excited about future possibilities for the development of new locations where men can be trained to preach the gospel. As these new locations are approved and finalized we will share the news. One of the staff members recently commented about the development of these new schools: “with these new locations we can say, ‘the sun never sets on a Bear Valley extension school.’” There is an idea worth promoting.

The expansion of the program in new locations will also bring new staff members to the program. When we finalize the development of each location, we will also announce the individuals who have dedicated themselves to the growth of these new schools. New faces and new ideas make for a good combination for developing each area more perfectly.

In addition to the consideration of new areas of school development, the past week brought exciting news about the current work of students involved in using their knowledge to take the gospel to their individual locations. The news is always encouraging to read as the gospel is proclaimed, souls are added to the kingdom, unfaithful brethren are restored, and the church is built up with encouragement.

One of the most exciting aspects of the news from each of these locations is the fact the church in the U.S. is also encouraged. We are all blessed to be a child in the Lord’s family. We are blessed to learn about the ways God works through His people. We are also blessed to share in the work with so many dedicated servants of the Lord who labor diligently.

Thank you all for the blessing you are to Bear Valley and the work of Extension Training.

There are so many complexities to the work of this program, so many people involved to insure the proper working of each component. The need is often times overwhelming, but the burden is lighter because of the funds, talent, labor and time contributed by each of you. This program could not function without you. Thank you.

Beginning The Third Year...

Much excitement as Tanzania Missions continues to expand
It’s hard to believe but this report coincides with the beginning of our third year since returning to Tanzania. Like life for all people around the globe sometimes it feels like time has flown by and other times it feels like the clock has stopped. Regardless of how it feels, the work here continues to go forward at an amazing pace. The mission team, coupled with so many local brethren, is overwhelmed (in a positive way) with the amount of work we are facing. It is a great blessing to have such a talented pool of people working in their various areas of expertise, all in an effort to broadcast the gospel. We have brethren that can preach, teach, evangelize and write. Others handle the work’s translation needs; both written and spoken, technical needs, printing needs, construction and facility improvement needs. Still others are nurses, cooks, cleaners, organizers, artists, facilitators, project managers and motivators. On and on the list could go and we are so blessed to be able to truthfully say so! And lest I be remiss, we have you, faithful, sacrificial and generous supporters – thank you! With servants on both sides of the world Tanzania Missions is a working picture of the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 12. We realize, however, that there is always room for additional growth and it is here that we propose a golden opportunity for the furtherance of the gospel in East Africa.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION…ALMOST
While on furlough last year myself and Cy Stafford were blessed to be able to agree to terms with Rudy Cain, general manager of World Video Bible School in Maxwell, Texas, who had everything we needed to start a high quality video production studio. The equipment is almost new and is in pristine condition. The sticker price was in the neighborhood of $20,000+ and Rudy could have easily sold it and recouped his money. However, his interests were more toward the benefit of the kingdom and he agreed to sell it to Tanzania Missions for $10,000! Further to our benefit, Rudy is allowing us to pay it off over the course of 2014. How blessed we are, again!
We stepped out in faith and agreed to purchase the equipment. I brought everything back with us when we returned from our furlough and we are chomping at the bit to get set up and start recording.

In order to fund this endeavor, Cy Stafford, our mission team leader, has asked that each missionary family make a plea to their current supporters, and any other brethren that might be interested, to help us cover this investment. We need to pay for the equipment and complete a dedicated space for the studio. The grand total for the equipment and the space is estimated at $15,000. Thus far, others on our mission team have raised $1700 leaving us with a balance of $13,300.

Brethren, this is a tremendous opportunity to further help reach the millions of souls in East Africa. We know you are taxed with so many financial obligations but we beg on behalf of the lost for your help. God, through your generosity, can make this happen.

If you plan on helping it is important that you pay attention to this: DON’T SEND THESE FUNDS TO OUR REGULAR SPONSOR. These funds should be made out and sent to:

Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver
C/O (EARMARKED): TANZANIA MISSIONS VIDEO STUDIO
2707 S. Lamar Street
Denver, Colorado 80227

If you are going to help would you mind dropping me a line so I can let the others on our team know? By doing so we can share in the joy of your gift and keep track of where we are in obtaining our goal.

OTHER HAPPENINGS
The picture at the top of the page is the Maji Ya Chai church of Christ. Anita and I had the privilege of visiting and worshiping with these good brethren recently. The Maji Ya Chai congregation has benefitted greatly from our sponsoring congregation, the 2nd & Adams church of Christ (2acoc) in Elk City, OK. 2acoc has held a number of campaigns in the area and has generously contributed by supplying the funds to build the church building and preachers residence. 2acoc plans on sending another group this June for further campaigns in the area.

Anita is well on her way of painting the mural at ACSOP. We are all excited to see what the finished product will look like. If you want to follow her progress, take a look at our Tanzania Missions Facebook page.

I have been working on the shelves and mobile work islands for the Arusha Bible School. Hopefully they should be done in a couple weeks. It is really easy to take for granted the resources available in the U.S. as this project has reminded me. There is no such thing here as a flat sheet of plywood and my work sometimes looks like a blind drunk put it together. In the end it will work, I just wish it looked a little better.

The Arusha Bible School (ABS) will be the hub for the new resource center. Books, magazines, brochures, visuals, DVD’s, computers with bible software, regular classes, etc., will all be part of the resource center. Area congregations will be able to check out materials to assist them in their teaching and evangelistic efforts.

While we are on the subject of ABS, a very encouraging thing happened there last week. A man came in and inquired about what type of school it was, how much is the tuition, etc.… The Massawe’s (a faithful couple that live and work at ABS) informed the man that they taught the Bible from cover-to-cover and that there is no tuition. It is free to any who wish to attend. He then related that he was a denominational preacher and he wanted to enroll and he wanted his entire congregation to enroll! He and several others in his congregation have already turned in their applications and will start school in the near future.

Recently we visited the home of Saitote, one of our guards, and his wife, Pendo. We enjoyed playing with their newborn son Joshua, having some soda and getting to know them a little better. I have had a few bible studies with Saitote and hope to have more with him in the near future. We hope he and his wife will come to Christ one day.

During the month of January we had the privilege of being the host for the Friday night mission team devotionals. Each week we get together for a potluck and have some good fellowship, singing and studying the Bible.

BACK STORY
From time-to-time we are asked about the highs and lows, the victories and the frustrations, of being missionaries in a developing country. In the past week we were faced with one such challenge. I think what makes it so frustrating is that things like these are out of our control and we must simply deal with it. This past week our electricity cost went up. Sure, utilities go up, it’s part of the world we live in right? But when is the last time your utilities went up almost 45% without any warning?! To add insult to injury, this is the second time Tanesco (the government run juice supplier) has raised rates in the last two years. Our electricity now costs almost 90% more than it did just two years ago, that’s right 90%! The poor citizens of Tanzania are rioting because of the rate hike as they can’t afford it at all. Add this to a 7% inflation rate and, usually, no increase in pay and the poor only get poorer. Pray for them that there can be some relief.

As I close, Anita and I offer our thanks for your continued support. We hope and pray that your labor in the kingdom is filled with joy and that when discouragement and trials come your way you bless the Father and give no place to the wicked one. We pray for the church in America often and we ask that you petition the Father on behalf of the church here as well.

Until next time, take care and God bless,
Sean and Anita Hochdorf

New Students Arrive At ACSOP...

Greetings Fellow Servants;

We stand amazed at the good being done by God here in Tanzania. The Gospel is going out daily by various means, converting the souls of countless throughout East Africa. We stand amazed at the support team we have making all this possible. Your love for lost souls and your great sacrifice in giving toward the many opportunities that God offers here in TZ has proven to be a winning combination for good. God is so good and you all are so good to us, we can only say, “Thank You” from the bottom of our very souls.

The new students have arrived. We had 32 applicants completed and approved. So far 27 have shown up for classes with the possibility of others still to come. This is by far the largest intake we have had, thanks to your generosity. The Lord is blessing us with more church plants and needs for trained, faithful evangelists than we could have ever imagined. We are so excited about the future of the church in Tanzania, East Africa and yes, the world. We are blessed beyond measure to be a part of such a grand mission effort and to partner with so many amazing brothers and sisters in the church.

Christopher & Julia Mwakabanje are coming to America. Christopher will follow Charles Heberth (who will be at World Video Bible for some translation work in a couple of weeks), to translate and video two Bible courses. If anyone would like for either of these brothers to visit your congregation and report on all the Lord is doing through the Andrew Connally School of Preaching and through the many evangelistic outreach programs, please drop me a note and we will do our level best to arrange a time and date. A very special thank you to all who have contributed and made this work possible. By translating Bible material into Ki-Swahili, we will be better equipped to reach the 150 plus million souls with God’s saving message.

If the Lord wills, Stephanie, Granny and I will be leaving Tanzania in a few hours, heading to the U.S. of A. We look forward to a little time off to see our family and more so, seeing many of you, sharing with you, one-on-one, the amazing good being done here in this part of God’s world. We have a few openings in our schedule, so, if any one would like to “hear” the story of God’s working in East Africa, please let us know.

Please pray for Dennis Dickey and his team as they teach a Short Course at the ACSOP and help in the planting of congregation number 8 in the Njiro Chini area of Arusha. We solicit your prayers as we travel and for the whole Tanzania team as they continue in the work of the Lord. We pray for each of you as you strive faithfully where you serve.

In Him,
Cy, Stephanie & Granny

KSOP Sees 8 Souls Obey The Gospel...

Beloved,

I take this opportunity to share with you the joy of 8 souls that were baptized through the preaching school students going out to evangelize in the local congregations for the past 4 Sundays. Some students even organized with the church preachers to conduct door to door evangelism with the result that many Bible studies were established. We are excited at the zeal to spread the gospel being shown by these men. The is knowledge put to practice.

Phabian Paul, a former student at ACSOP in Arusha, Tanzania, is teaching the book of Isaiah during this quarter and after him we look forward to having Mike Reese and Denny Petrillo teaching two short courses from February 24 through March 7. We will also have six students from Uganda and Kenya coming for two masters class at KSOP. It’s a great honor to have foreign teachers come to teach and get involved with the Lord’s work.

We are also expecting a team from the US, led by elders of Charlotte Avenue Church of Christ, SC. They will lead gospel campaigns in various areas in Western Kenya. Together we will lead the preaching students to Ndwara for a three day gospel campaign from February 20 -23. We look forward to a fruitful week during the campaign to help the new congregation reach out. We pray for your safety as you prepare to fly.

The school is growing steadily and stronger every quarter and we thank all who take time to pray for us, generously supporting the school and offering advice and encouragement. Join us in prayers to buy land for the school; I know this will come to pass. Do not therefore “…grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

His servant and yours,
Charles Ogutu

Weekend Evangelism Sees Increase From God...

Dearest in Christ,

Calvary greetings from Wotutu here in Cameroon. We are doing great in health and the work entrusted in our hands, except for some students who had malaria, but thanks to God we had drugs on campus that we administered to our sick students and some members of the congregation.

Last week in Cameroon is always different characterized with lots of activities as the 11th of February every year is a national holiday where both the French and English speaking Cameroonians in 1961 accepted to be one.

All other activities in CBIW are going on well. Students continue to grow in their studies and way of life to give glory to God. Keep them in your prayers.

Our students during the holiday marched pass government officials raising their Bibles up to show that lives on earth will not be meaningful if many continue to live their lives out of the norms of the Bible. Our early 5 am program is “Back to the Bible.” It continues to help expose the truth to many in our communities.

Our Christian elementary school school in Wotutu, Brightland, was also part of the celebration. What a great thing to colonize the minds of these young ones with the word. That is our aim in Brightland Christian Academy, to give the word of God to these young people and help them grow daily with the truth. Many of them come from unbelieving homes. Your prayers and support will do great things to this work. The motto is “Excellence and Trust Built in God.”

Our involvement in the holiday is of double purpose, as the government commands all schools to be actively involved and participate in the activities, like choral singing and other stuff. CBIW students will only march pass and spend the other time sharing the good news to many young people as it is an opportunity for many schools in the communities to come together. We do our best to transplant the truth which will grow in them and help them.

Brother Mokwe, in Koba village, obeyed the government with their instructions. Some CBIW students traveled to 7 different locations for weekend evangelism. Brother Mokwe Eugene was in Koba, my village, sharing the good news to the people on house to house. Keep my village congregation in your prayers as they have a lot of struggles to stand firm. There is no one to preach the word to them which made many fall from the grace. They have no building to worship God, which also presents a great challenge.

Brother Mokwe baptized sister Judith into Christ. He also baptized brother Modika and restored 8 souls into Christ. What a God we serve. Keep this work in your prayers as we are putting our interest as along as we have the means to send our students there on weekly basics, so that this congregation will get sound messages and get the backsliders who are in their number to come back to the Lord. Please, would you love to be part of this soul saving ministry?

One soul was added in Ediki, Dikome  and a total of 5 precious souls were added into the church this weekend. Keep them in your prayers as we feed them with the spiritual milk that will help them grow.

The Koba congregation is under construction. We are fighting hard to get a wooden building and zinc on it before the rains comes Please keep this in your prayers. The old building sits beside the new one under construction

Plans
We continue reaching out to many communities weekly. Koba and Dikome have great interest.

The work in Dikome continues to grow and the Christians made an appeal for more Bibles, as they show their interest in studying more so as to share with others. They dominant population in that congregation are sisters and they are zealous.

Appreciations
God bless you for all that you are doing to the work here. God alone will bless you and reward you for your good heart. Continue so that you will get your reward in due season.

Do your best to share this report with others.

Elangwe and family

Power-packed And More...

Simply saying the past week was power-packed would be a gross understatement. Words cannot adequately express the incredible nature of the week at the Freed Hardeman Lectureship. We know the lessons were powerful, the singing euphoric, and the fellowship nothing short of divine this side of heaven.

We are thankful to have an opportunity to share in this event each year and the staff of the extension program was able to meet for two days to discuss various areas of the work. Taking time to discuss the work of each location and what can be done to improve the areas lacking, serves to enhance the development of extension training. Each year we take steps to grow and this year was no exception.

In addition to our discussions about the work, we were also able to hear about three new possibilities where Bear Valley is looking to partner in the training of preachers. The announcement and development of these new locations is forthcoming. We ask you to be praying about our efforts and the growth of the program as we work together to fulfill God’s will in training men to preach the gospel of Jesus.

One of the quotes from the week in our staff meeting that is worth keeping in mind: “I am so busy doing my stuff I don’t have time to evangelize, but he is so busy evangelizing, he doesn’t have time for all the other stuff.” We all felt it was a thought worth considering.

One Man's Funeral Helps Bring Spiritual Life To Others...

Dearest in the Lord,

Greetings from Cameroon. I do hope this report will find you all in good health and sound faith as usual. I am writing this report with much tiredness from a long journey. Thank you for your prayers toward us as many of us left Wotutu to 9 different locations for weekend evangelism. As I write this report, God who took us out, brought us back safe and sound.

This weekend evangelism was great, as we were able to meet up with the numerous invitations from some congregations to send our students to help them. It is exciting that students are always happy to go to the mission fields in different locations. Some locations are not easy to access, but the joy of reaching out to perishing souls is a strong force that pushes and provokes us to go, so that we may rob from the strong man’s house. This week was full of blessings as God added souls to His church.

Four students and I went on our way to a village far away from Wotutu called Nfainchang. Our mission to this village over the weekend was to bury a brother who died in Ediki congregation and we were supposed to take his corpse to his home village for burial. There is no congregation there, so five of us went there from CBIW to conduct the burial. We were soaked in our clothes with dust.

Our mission after the burial was to see how we can establish a new congregation in that village, so we embarked on house to house evangelism. It is a very small village with less than 15 houses. The people are so attached to their fetish beliefs and witchcraft, they looked upon us as bringing something strange to them, but they were very receptive to us and they are educated to read from the word and see what God is saying. There are 3 denominations already in the village and those 3 denominations allowed them to remain and do all things that are satanic in their traditions, so they were surprised to see us exposing it and saying that it was bad and they need to repent from that and come to Jesus and enjoy a new life .

I preached the funeral message on “Where Will You Spend Eternity?” It was great as the entire village, as small as it is, stood by and watched me speak out of God’s word with courage and pointing them to the cross of Jesus. It was a message that touched their minds and provoked them to think as they struggle to answer the question. Keep this community in your prayers.

One brother who is into smoking and drinking of alcohol came to us and asked many questions on what if he repented now, will God accept him into his house? He has been doing lots of atrocities. He was a visitor to the village who came for the funeral, but he lives in Kumba town and the church of Christ is there, so he will be worshiping there. Keep brother John Itoe in your prayers as he grows in the Lord.

Brother James is a son to the brother that died. He listened to the message and decided to obey it also on his father burial. What a joy. He is not a white person, but an albino. Keep him in your prayers to grow to maturity.

Another son obeyed the gospel. Daniel was happy to become a Christian even though the atmosphere was characterized with sadness, but he is having hope for eternity as long as he remains focused. A total of 4 male energetic souls obeyed the gospel during the funeral of brother Tom Eyong who was a preacher since the 60s, but because of ill health he became ineffective to continue his work. Please remember his family in your prayers as his 8 children are left behind.

A student went to weekend evangelism at the Baird Memorial College in Buea, which is a Christian Secondary school being run by a sister in Christ in Buea. They are having a college congregation and they need our students to come there every weekend and help with evangelizing the unbelieving students and the people who live outside the school campus. The Lord added 5 precious souls there this weekend, 3 students and two from outside the school. Keep this work in your prayers, as we see it develop every week.

Beside the grave, many watched the fulfillment of God’s word. That man came from dust and to dust man returns. It was great for many to learn truth which has been hidden from them.

After we left Nfainchang village because no one in the village obeyed the gospel and all those we baptized were strangers who traveled back to their respective destinations. We left and came to Manyemen village and decided to stop and worship with this congregation. We arrived there yesterday and this morning it was great to meet with them, so that we could encourage them to keep the faith and reach out to their community and make disciples for the cross. Our presence was a big encouragement to them and because of the way our students handled the word of God, we have two prospective students who admired them and have made up their minds to apply when the next entrance exams will be given so that they will come and be trained. Keep their burning desires in your prayers.

Some 15 students went to the Bomaka congregation on invitation for house to house evangelism throughout the weekend. God used them to touch the hearts of many with the truth and a total of 7 souls were added in that congregation. We have strong assurance about their growth because one of our instructors in CBIW is an evangelist there, Otia David. A total of 16 souls were added to the Lord’s body over the weekend.

Brother Etah Edwin taught and stressed the importance of the decision that a brother took to follow Jesus. While they moved down the stream, brother Edwin opened the Bible again and again for him to be convicted about the decision to obey the truth and become a slave for Christ. When we have tracts many will benefit from it as congregations keep asking for tracts, Bibles and other study materials from us. If you have those things, please tell us and we will tell you how you can get it to us.

Plans
We continue our weekend evangelism because we have seen that it is yielding fruit for the kingdom. Keep us in your prayers as we do more to bring glory to God.

Appreciations
We say thank you for your prayers, commitment and support to us. God bless you all and watch over you as you do this for His glory. You are in our prayers. Keep us in your prayers also. Do your best to share this report with others. God bless you.

Activity, Agriculture, Accommodation, Annual Lectureship...

By the grace and mercies of our Lord, activities are going on steadily as per the schedule of the Institute.

We are happy and thankful to the Lord for bringing brother Tony Johnson and brother Steven Ashcraft from America back to Tamale.

EVANGELICAL ACTIVITY
Currently, students under the supervision of brother Agyei Mensah and Tony Johnson are on an evangelism campaign in the Zabzugu Tatale Distrct of the Northern Region of Ghana. This activity is planned to assist one of the graduates of the Institute to win more souls for the Lord and also to edify his young congregation.

TRAINING IN AGRICULTURE
Plans are being made to make our students undertake some training in agriculture. This is to enhance their knowledge and skills in agriculture. Since most of the students are farmers it is hoped that the Ministry of Agriculture which has been requested to conduct the training, will bring to bare the modern technics in farming. The Institute involves the students in such activities in order to make them do farming to support themselves where the congregation is not financially prepared to support the preacher.

ACCOMMODATION FOR DIRECTOR
As part of the Coordinator's plans to bring improvement into TIBS, a two bedroom accommodation is being built for the Director. Work is in progress and hopefully will be completed by April. This is a major booster to the work here in TIBS and we wish to express our profound appreciation to our sponsors.

ANNUAL LECTURESHIP
The Church of Christ campus ministry in all the three northern regions is meeting at TIBS for a 4 day lectureship on the the "THE CHRISTIAN YOUTH IN THE 21st CENTURY"

This is one way that the youth are to benefit from the usage of the facility which, God through our sponsors, have built for the lord's work. We appreciate it.

It is our prayer that the good Lord will be with us in our effort to Serve him.

Thank you.
BAAH JOSEPH OKYERE

A Special Baptism, Special Visitors, And Special Events...

Wow! January was quite an exciting month! The Lord continues to give the increase here in Paraguay through spiritual and numerical growth. What a blessing to work in His kingdom! We hope the good news from this month’s report from the mission field of Paraguay brings you much joy!

Developments at Sacramento Avenue
We’ve been reporting for a few months about our continued study with Sandra Duarte and how her husband, at first, didn’t want her involved in the church. This month, Sandra decided to obey the Gospel call! Oh, what joy to see the Word of God working in the hearts of those diligently seeking Him!

Our sister in Christ, Karen Bennett, returned to Paraguay this year to visit us and to give the keynote address at the Annual Ladies Retreat. It was a huge success with nearly 30 in attendance to help set their goals for 2014.

The men have approved the idea of planning a future church plant! They were four possible cities suggested, so they are going to start investigating to see which one might have the most potential. Please pray for this!

Developments at Ñemby Congregation
The brethren at Ñemby have decided to make some special improvements on their meeting facility that they rent. First item on the list: a bathroom for the ladies! That’s right, a bathroom - the one toilet they had was stolen, so they have decided to close in an area and make a nice facility for the ladies.

Eliezer Perez returned to Paraguay on January 6th from his furlough back to his home country of Panama. When asked if he missed Paraguay while he was home, he said, “Yes. Because I’ve already grown accustomed to being here.” He said he even took some tereré (yerba mate) back with him to Panama!

Asunción Bible Academy Update
The students are only a few days away from finishing their first complete year of studies in the Bible Academy! What an achievement! We are so thankful for their dedication and hard work, but more so for the spiritual growth we see in each one.

Brother Luis Camacho of the Bear Valley Extension School Program came to Paraguay during the week of Jan 20-24 to teach “1st Corinthians.” He did a wonderful job, the students responded very well to him, and we greatly enjoyed having him as a guest. He also preached for us at Ave Sacramento and he had the opportunity to visit the congregation at Ñemby.

Brother Enoch Rinks, (our former mission teammate), also taught a short course for us in the Academy on the topic of “Church Planting.” The students were then assigned a Special Project where they had to develop a complete strategy plan for a new church plant somewhere in Paraguay.

Evangelistic Contacts / Bible Studies / Activities
We were blessed to have our sister in Christ, Karen Bennett, come back to visit us. She is such an encouragement to us and we appreciate her missionary spirit and willingness to serve. She is a member at one of our supporting congregations, Central Ave church of Christ in Valdosta, GA. While she was here, she made a lot of great connections with the members and especially the ladies. They even gave her a going away gift (that says a lot!)

Ike Yegros and I have continued our study with, Rolando Duarte, the husband of Sandra Duarte (who was just recently baptized). We are doing a verse-by-verse, expository study of “Matthew” at his request. He takes lots of notes and asks lots of questions so the studies are very thorough. It’s so refreshing to see such great interest in God’s word - and don’t forget that we mentioned in previous reports that he is very Catholic!

I now have a twice-a-week study going with my Taekwondo instructor, Christian Jourdain. We are studying “Fundamentals” on one day and “Matthew” on the next. He is very inquisitive and has said he just wants to be pleasing to the Lord. We also started having a prayer with everyone in the gym before starting practice.

I had the opportunity to study with our brethren, Ramon Paredes and Elvira Dominguez, who will be getting married on February 8th. We used the Bible for some pre-marital counseling to help them start off with a very strong Christian marriage. We pray for a long, happy, and prosperous marriage for them both.

Andrea has several studies going on between her English/Bible students, evangelistic studies, and some new “edification” studies. Her studies are with Oscar Parodi, Adriana Rodriguez, Jazmine Santander, Dina Aycock, and Sandra Duarte.

Hawaiian Luau in Paraguay! Most people here had no idea what we were talking about, nor does the word “luau” translate very well into Spanish. But, once we said “just dress up like you’re going to Hawaii,” then the whole youth group got really excited! Andrea prepared several typical Hawaiian dishes, had flower leis for everyone, translated everyone’s name into Hawaiian names, had island music playing, and the works! There were 40 in attendance including about 10 visitors. Everyone had a blast!

Other News and Upcoming Activities:
Enrique Albera and Leti Alfonso, as well as, Ramon Paredes and Elvira Dominguez will be getting married in February

Special Mission Trip to El Salvador/Honduras

Annual Church Camp/Retreat

Personal Activities
Andrea went to a “Going Away” tea for Laura Rinks at the home of Nora Yegros. It was great to get to see Laura and Enoch while they were visiting family here. By the way, they are expecting another baby real soon!

We went to visit Maria Teresa Vaesken to encourage her in her attendance. She hasn’t been coming as often and sometimes people just need a little encouragement that their church family misses them when they don’t attend faithfully.

We enjoyed a nice evening of fellowship and food in our home with our brethren, Delci Enciso, Natalia Mendoza, Maria Teresa Vaesken, and Karen Bennett.

I finally had the opportunity to go play golf! Karen Bennett and I went and tried out the Asuncion Golf Club. It was a nice course and it was fun, but the sewer water running through the creek in the middle of the 1st hole was a little distasteful!

The brethren at Ñemby hosted a “Welcome Back” dinner for Eliezer Pérez. It was a nice evening to get to see and visit with our brethren out there.

Personal Study
I am currently reading / have read:

The 360° Leader by John Maxwell
Why I Left The Catholic Church by Joseph C. Malone

I have been studying with a Jehovah’s Witness for the past several weeks. I asked him “How can we ever arrive at the same conclusion if you are using a different Bible than what I use?” He has proceded to show me all about his Bible but still hasn’t satisfactorily answered my question! They take a lot of verses out of context and employ a very strange hermeneutic to show their “reasoning” from the Scriptures.

I have been preparing sermons and lessons for a mission trip to El Salvador and Honduras in February.

Preaching / Teaching Opportunities

This month, I had the opportunity to preach at Avenida Sacramento on the subject of “How to Identify a Mature Christian.”

I also taught classes on Judges and Romans in our Bible study hours at Avenida Sacramento.
