OCTOBER 2024 NARRATIVE REPORT

INTRODUCTION

The month of October was a busy month at BVBIZ. These included the Preachers’ Retreat, graduation, Annual General Meeting, graduation lecture and the fundraising program amongst others. Classes continued as well. These and more are covered below;

1.0 THE VISIT

The Bear Valley Bible Institute International president, Denny Petrillo and our regional director, Donnie Estep visited the school from the 15thto the 19th of October. They interacted with the staff, students, board, and preachers who attended the Retreat. The also witnessed the school’s 4th graduation ceremony, Annual General Meeting and fundraising program. Dr. Denny Petrillo presented a lesson during the Retreat, was also guest speaker during graduation and fundraising ceremonies. A few hours prior to his departure, he also taught a Bible class at Bulawayo Central congregation.  It was a blessing to have these two brothers with us.

2.0 PREACHER’S RETREAT

BVBIZ’s annual Preachers’ Retreat took place from the 16th to the 18th of October. The program ran under the theme, “Taking Pleasure in Self Development.” A number of topics were covered during the three-day meeting.

3.0 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The school’s annual general meeting took place on the 18th of October. This meeting provides an opportunity for stakeholders to receive reports from the board and management. At the same time, questions and suggestions are made. The stakeholders received the board chairperson’s report, the director’s report and the treasurer’s report.

The tenure of the current board ends in October 2025. As a result, calls were made for a new board to come in to facilitate a smooth transition in 2025. From those who expressed interest prior to the AGM, four were chosen to be board members. These are brothers Nhamo Mandebvu, Mike Chivinge, Albert Masvisvi and Method Moyo. Five more slots remain and will be filled at the next AGM.  Great appreciation to all those who attended this important program.

4.0 GRADUATION

4.1 GRADUATION LECTURE

On the eve of every graduation ceremony, BVBIZ hosts a graduation lecture code named the Isaiah Suwari memorial lecture. The session is a memorial to the late Isaiah Suwari whose vision and expertise saw the planting of BVBIZ. Unfortunately, he went to be with the Lord a few days before the official commencement of the school. During the lecture, an academic is called to give a final lecture to the graduates to be. The 2024 guest speaker was Theophilus Tanhera. He emphasized on the need of studying and for continual improvement on the part of preachers in view of the ever-changing environment that they will be working in. The message was adequately driven home. Besides the graduands, current students and preachers who had attended the Retreat benefited from the lecture as well.

4.2 GRADUATION PROPER

The school’s fourth graduation ceremony took place on the 19th of October. Nineteen graduated on the day. Eight graduated from the parallel class whilst eleven were from the conventional class. Those in the parallel class took 4 years to complete their studies. The guest speaker was Dr Denny Petrillo, the Bear Valley Bible Institute International president. New school begins in Nhowe, Zimbabwe

 BEAR VALLEY BIBLE INSTITUTE -NHOWE

OCTOBER 2024 NARRATIVE REPORT

By Kudakwashe Madyira

PREAMBLE

The school has a mission to expand its borders to accommodate more servants in the church. In a bid to train more in the ministry, Macheke had been proposed for an establishment of an extension centre. The surrounding congregations will benefit from this establishment. The centre started as a learning point for the block classes at Nhowe Mission which is a church of

Christ Institution. As of October, we  now had 10 students registered for the class.

1.0  STUDENTS

We started with 8 students but as of October, there were two more additions to the class. Of the 10, nine are males whilst one is female.

 2.0 SUBJECTS COMPLETED

Though, officially, the Nhowe class began in August 2024, lessons had begun in March following the standards set up at Gweru and Harare. A number of subjects have been taught this far. The following subjects have been covered already;

 1.                 Old Testament Law/ Pentateuch –Ishmael  Mutichu

2.                 How we got the Bible –Mathew  Muchingami

3.                 Christian Evidences – Kudakwashe Madyira

4.                 Scheme of Redemption – Kudakwashe Madyira Madyira

5.                 Personal Evangelism – Lovemore Manyanhaire

6.                 Public Speaking – Mathew Muchingami

7.                 Life of Christ – Kudakwashe Madyira

8.                 Acts of Apostles – Kudakwashe Madyira

9.                 1 and 2 Corinthians – Kudakwashe Madyira

10.             Homiletics 1 – Ishmael Mutichu

 3.0  PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The classes at Nhowe Extension have been designed to run through the year in clusters. Classes are done during the first and the third weekends of the month. Each weekend spans from Friday to Sunday with an average of 18 hours. This means that every month, an average of 36 hours are taken as lecture hours. During school breaks (when Nhowe High School students are on break) a block of ten days have been designed to advance other courses.

As opposed to a term system, BVBI-Nhowe uses a semester system just like the Harare class. A semester runs for 6 months without any break. This means that each year, there are two semesters. The first semester ended in September whilst the new semester began in October. With the current pace, it means that it shall take around 42 months (3 and half years) minimum to complete the entire course as we seek not to compromise on the number of hours needed per subject.

4.0 TEACHERS

The following are currently teaching the Nhowe class as highlighted above;

  1. Kudakwashe Madyira

  2. Ishmael Mutichu

  3. Howard Suwari

  4. Lovemore Manyanhaire

  5. Mathew Muchingami

5.0 PRACTICUM

While students have been doing their practicum including during church services, supervised practicum is set to commence in December. As per the established standard, each student needs at least two years supervised practicum before graduation. Subsequent reports will be alluding to progress in this area.

CONCLUSION

We appreciate God’s grace in the progress of Bear Valley Bible Institute-Nhowe. The students are widely benefiting from the extension program at this place. Your hand in this work is greatly acknowledged. God Bless!

Graduation in Malawi!

Graduation time is always a special event to be remembered by the graduates, teachers, and guardians. On the 12th of October, 2024, we had a great graduation than before. This was a special graduation graced the even was the professor Dr. Denny Petrillo, our brother I'm Christ. We have known him as the president for BV 70 schools in the world before he became one of the elders at his home congregation. We were very honored to have him as the guest of honor along with the elders from Hillcrest church; Brothers Tim and Mike. The visitors also included Donnie, who is the coordinator for all the BV schools in Southern Africa.

The ceremony started at 8Am and ended at 10Am it took about 2 hours to finish everything.

We had about 6 men who spoke, and I will just mention the speeches made by only three people; The first to speak was the student's representative, he thanked God for their 2 years time at school where everyone enjoyed the classes and received everything at no cost. He also requested the BV international to consider Bachelors and Masters degree classes at the school since they still have hunger and thirst to learn more of God's words.

The second to speak was the chief of the area, who appreciated the coming of the school in the area as they have benefited greatly with clean water, which the school shares with them. But they noticed the many villagers who came to the school to get water and cause the environment to be conducive, and because of this, the chief asked if we could consider drilling another borehole in the area. After the chief representative, the director of the school, also spoke, then one the elders from Hillcrest church, the coordinator, and finally, our guest of honor concluded everything.

The speech of Brother Denny Petrillo emphasized using the knowledge they have been given. As follows of Christ, we always need to commit what we have been entrusted to other faithful men who could also be able to teach others - 2 Timothy 2:2. He also said, "Without using the knowledge given, it is a disaster"; "Without living a life demonstrating the knowledge given is a disaster" he encouraged the students to live a life worth the entrusted message of salvation - *the gospel !

We, as BV school staff here at Ekwendeni, are always thankful to God for the great partnership between the BV international and the eldership of the Hillcrest church. The cooperation has greatly changed the looks of many things at our school here in Ekwendeni, Malawi. We pray to God always for your families and the church thereto always consider us worthy of your support, kindness, and love. The world is still in sins, and we need to always consider the lost souls - Eternity Is Forever, Think Souls!

Your brothers in Christ,

Ephron and Clergynton

First ever graduation in Philippines!

Capping-off and Starting Over Again in 2024

After 4 years of hard labor in accomplishing assignments, memorizing Bible verses, creating sermon outlines and research papers, studying class notes for quizzes and exams, our first batch of students have finally reached the finished line as they tackled the remaining two courses in July and August.

We have the opportunity to study on the Scheme of Redemption (Plan of Salvation) with brothers from the US, Greg Pollock and Jon Lucius on July 15-19,2024. A few young men and women from the neighboring island of Negros joined us as they audit this course together with few preachers from the Cebu. We all have enjoyed this class as we learn deeper God’s plan to save the world. Our students were fascinated to learn the truth about the plan of salvation which started before creation. It is always a great time to learn new things studying the scripture.

In August, we have another international instructor teaching our students the 2nd epistle of Paul to the Corinthians. Shane Fisher, with his wife Emily, visited our school and he shared his knowledge regarding 2 Corinthians. Shane and Emily are both working with the World Evangelism ministry in Winona, Mississippi and they also love singing. After our daily lectures, they have taught our students new church hymns, which were composed by him and one brother. We also have a few audit students coming from Dumaguete City, Negros island and few from Cebu as well.

After capping-off the curriculum by studying the Scheme of Redemption and 2 Corinthians, we have gone full circle and started again into our curriculum for the second batch of students. I have the opportunity again to teach the history of our Bible, “How We Got the Bible.” We had a great week studying this course in September and our students who only studied these things the first time were amazed with the transmission of the Bible, from the time it was written to the time it was copied and now translated to different languages in the modern period.  We greatly appreciate the people behind the efforts to bring the Bible to what it is now.

October is a special month to our school here in Bear Valley Bible Institute – Cebu, Philippines because we have another opportunity to learn from the Director of International Studies, Keith Kasarjian. Keith has done as always, a great job in teaching the course, Sermon Preparation and Development to another batch of Bible students. Another reason why this month is special because the 6 of our students  received their certificates on graduation day in October 11, 2024. Families and friends of our graduates join us on this joyous celebration. The WORD has now been entrusted to these faithful men, now it is their turn to teach Word of Christ to more faithful men.

Bear Valley at Cape Coast, Ghana

BEAR VALLEY, CAPE COAST

THIRD QUARTER REPORT OF THE YEAR: SEPTEMBER 2024

PREAMBLE

The Bear Valley Bible School in Cape Coast started in February of the year 2022. We have successfully completed over two and half years as a school. We are currently in our third year by the gracious mercies of God. The first set of students who were admitted have been ushered into what is hopefully their final years of studies if all things go according to plan. It has really been an exciting period of studies in the last few years since we started together. The school and rapport with staff and students is just amazing. Everything just keeps on getting better.

OVERVIEW

The Cape Coast Study Center is arguably one of the best Bible School outlets in the region. It is expected to make serious inroads in the country by the time people start seeing and hearing our graduates preach and teach in the various congregations. Starting with just a little over ten students in February of the year 2022, the school keeps on attracting students from across the region. As at the end of the last quarter, our numbers stood at 38. Some of the students are not regular at school due to their work schedule and family and social commitments. Currently, two of our students have secured jobs outside the region. Another has travelled to be with the family and cannot continue to study with us. This has thus reduced our numbers to 35.

STUDENT TRANSFER

We lost two of our students to other regions in the course of the third quarter. They secured jobs in the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions to begin continue their lives after national service. They are yet to secure permanent accommodations, so we have not been able to get them affiliated to other Bear Valley units yet. A third student has also stopped and joined the family in Accra. This reduced our numbers by three and as a result our total number of students now stands at 35.

The school is constantly making a lot of advertisement and announcements at various church programs (funerals, weddings, naming ceremonies, etc), and we hope this will bring in more students to join our ranks.

The improvement in our students’ enrollment is a testimony to the good works we are putting in here as we keep attracting interest and attention of the people of the central region. Brethren from all around the region keep calling to make inquiries about our programs and activities. And for this we have our students to thank for, as they have proven to be very good ambassadors to the school and the Bear Valley name.

COURSES

As at the end of September, the third quarter of the year 2024, we have successfully completed the following courses: THE GODHEAD, HYMNODY AND THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH.

We hope to continue with: ELEMENTARY GREEK, THE WISDOM BOOKS, THE GODHEAD AND HOMILETICS 2 in the next quarter.

UPDATE ON EVANGELISM AT MANKOADZI (a town in the Effutu municipality of the Central Region)

Our planned evangelism which could not come off in the first quarter has finally taken place. In fact, it was a great success. A church has been planted in the community and one of our students, Brother Theophilus Buckman is in charge of this church. They have been meeting since then. The first church meeting recorded an attendance of ten people.

PROJECTIONS FOR NEXT QUARTER

We have started with our visits to the local congregation of our students. The next visit comes off on the 20th of this month. We have discovered that it is an effective way to encourage the locals and also learn from them in different settings.

We hope to welcome our external Greek Teacher to Cape Coast in October to commence with lessons in elementary Greek. Another visit has also been planned to visit the new church at Mankoadzi. We pray and hope that resources will be made available for all of these activities

Quarterly Updates from Nsawam, Ghana

BEAR VALLEY BIBLE INSTITUTE, NSAWAM, GHANA

THIRD QUARTER REPORT, 2024

Introduction

Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. The following were our activities for the third quarter of 2024.

Classroom Activities

There were three courses offered this quarter: Personal Evangelism 2 taught by Emmanuel Amoo Gyimah, Greek taught by Samuel Papa-Woode, and Church Leadership, taught by Emmanuel Odeng Larbi.

Evangelism and Church Planting

Unfortunately, there was a setback in our efforts to plant a church at Akotoshie in Accra this year God willing. The setback was about the location of the plant. We hoped we would have planted the church by the end of the year.

Student Profile

Brother Stephen Nyarko is the student we are focusing on for this quarter. He was baptized in 1999 at Kintampo in the Bono East region of Ghana. Presently, he attends the Nsawam Central church of Christ where he is a regular Bible teacher. He works as a sales supervisor for Airtel-Tigo, a telecommunications network company in Ghana. He is one of the leaders in his class and is very vocal in his praise of the school. In an interview with him, he said, “I’ll give this school an 8/10.”  We are happy to have him with us.

Conclusion

We are grateful for Bear Valley’s assistance during this quarter. We pray for God’s blessings in this regard. And brethren, please continue to pray for us.

Bear Valley Work and Evangelistic Campaigns: Lagos Island

SABO ONIBA/LAGOS ISLAND CENTERS REPORT July to September 2024

INTRODUCTION

We continue to thank God for finding all of us useful in his kingdom in one way or another. Our appreciation goes to those who are funding the work of God in this part of the word. May God also bless those who are taking their time to study the word of God. The third quarter of this year has passed with its activities ranging from class work to field work. We are glad that many of us were used by God to impact others in one way or another.

BEAR VALLEY WORK

The students in both centers I am reporting for are doing great in their studies.  In Lagos Island, where the second set of students is in their first year, Research & Writing – 11 was taken by Oluwafemi Adewuyi in July.  They took Godhead in August by Ani Augustine. While Ibanga Udoh taught the Life of Christ 4 (Book of John) in September. Sabo Oniba Center was not left out in their classes as Research Methodology 2 was handled by Suliman Yusuf. Old Testament 5 (Minor Prophets) was taught by Akanimoh while Old Testament 3B (Psalm & Prov.) was directed by Mfon Etim. The classes are going on fine despite transportation increment challenges in our nation.

CAMPAIGNS/EVANGELISM:

We had two major campaigns last quarter. The first was that we joined the Mile 2 Badagry churches evangelism program in working with Etegbin church. The church is one of the congregations we joined in planting a few years ago. Both schools also joined Agege center for the first time in attending the church planting evangelism that took place first Saturday of October in Mulero in Orile-Agege, Lagos. It was a great experience that we had more than 90 prospects after the outing. We encouraged the local congregation to follow-up the prospects.

WBS ENROLLMENT/BAPTISM:

I also want to use this opportunity to appreciate the encouragement of Bro Chad in helping my movement as I train more workers in the WBS Online Study Help project. I was at Owerri and Aba in July to train about 10 ministers in the work. Part of them is students in BVBI in Owerri.

CONCLUSION:

We pray that God bless our sponsors so they continue to do the good work in this part of the world. There is a transformation going on in the church, which will bring rapid growth in the church over time. The leadership of the churches in Nigeria is also being strengthened.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Program Courses and Church Planning in Kara, Togo

OPERATING REPORT BEAR VALLEY INSTITUTE KARA – TOGO (third quarter 2024)

EXTENDED PROGRAM ; BVBI – KARA – TOGO

INTRODUCTION

Receive our most sincere greetings and thanks for the work of the Great Mission that we are all accomplishing through your material and financial support. All the churches of Christ of Kara greet you. We are continuing to make every effort to ensure that the students who graduate from this Bible School continue to bring the gospel effectively to the north, as many villages and towns are still without a church of Christ. We also continue to pray that our God will help us all to meet this challenge.

OPERATING REPORT

1-    The number of students : 09

2-    The courses already taught the second quarter :

a-    The book of Ezra and Esther : by TALAKI Nicodeme

b-    Christian Evidence : by KPELEVI David

c-    An Overview of Church History : by BEDJELSI H. Fidele

3-    The courses that will be taught during the fourth quarter 2024 :

a-    Evangelical Ethics : by KAGNON Luc

b-    The Comparative Study of Religions : by TALAKI Nicodeme

c-    The Major Cult : by BEDJELSI H. Fidele

4-    Instructors’ meeting :

The teachers are aware of the work to be done with the students who will soon be going out as evangelists. One of the questions that came up in the last meeting was how to help these students after they have finished their training. Our proposals were all the same : begg Bear Valley’s Direction to think about these students and help them financially to undertake an activity that could help them later on.

With practical work in Lassa Lao, the students were able to convert and baptize a denominational sister. This was a moment of great joy for the students and Instructors.

5-    Congregational Activities :

The program for the whole quarter’s work is drawn up by the work team. Together we decide on the work schedule to be adopted : where we will prioritize church planting ; which local churches we need to help increase their numerical membership. This system of work involves the zealous members of each local church. When this team travels to carry out its work in each locality, there is a good influence and the results of the work are very appreciable. This work team is effectively combating the problem of jealousy among evangelists, having chosen spiritually mature brothers to help resolve these kinds of conflicts. We continue to organize ourselves in the face of denominational influence by setting up a program to meet and discuss biblical truths. Despite the resistance of some, others encourage us. We also have door-to-door evangelism, which can enable us to discuss and convert a few denominational members. The regular implementation of these programs has enabled us to baptize a total of 09 people. The results of this work are very encouraging :

-        We were able to convert and baptize 02 women from Assembly of God’s members in Lama

-        We also were able to convert and baptize 03 women from Catholic and Presbyterian churches in Soumdina Pida

-        In Tchitchao, we baptized a woman from Catholic Church

-        In Lassa Lao, we convert and baptize 03 other women from the Embassies of Christ church.

a-    Worship and edification :

The edification and worship program continues with the help of students. This program organizes periodic fasts and prayers at each local church. This program helps us maintain unity in our work and unity and love among the members of each local church.

The Kabiye reading and speaking program is also a wake-up call for those enrolled. The brothers enrolled in this program are currently highly motivated, and each one is struggling to make his contribution to the edification of each local church. We sincerely welcome this program, which helps many to participate effectively during worship times.

b-   Door-to-door evangelism :

Each local church has a Leadership team responsible for organizing door-to-door evangelism. Twice a month, each local church organizes this evangelistic outing. In addition to these public evangelistic campaigns organized by the leadership of each local church. We continue to help each local church plant other churches. These local evangelization programs have enabled 3 women in Soumdina Pida ; 2 women in Lama and 1 woman in Tchitchao to be baptized.

c-    Seminars :

Last quarter, we organized 4 seminars :

-        The children’s seminar was held on the topic of « Children and domestic care »

-        Youth seminar : The general theme was : « Young Christians, useful for the Lord »

-        The seminar for evangelists and the evangelism team on the theme : « How can we overcome obstacles and succeed in winning souls for Christ ? »

-        The seminar for Men and Women : The general topic developed is : « God’s vows for marriage ».

d-   Read and speak kabiye program :

This program represents a revival within local churches. All those enrolled in this program have begun to take an interest in local church programs. They start reading the Bible during bible studies. Sometimes their efforts to read are laughed at, but they are determined to read and this arouses great interest in others. The Kabiye New Testament was given to each of them free of charge as a workbook to help them in their efforts, bringing great joy to the learners. We have very intense moments of joy during our times of adoration. It’s a very healthy program for these beginnings. The teacher of this program makes a lot of effort. He is also very pleased with the interest it arouses in the lives of old people in this very interesting program.

e-    Denominational Program :

This denominational program combined with the door-to-door evangelism program helps us in church planting and converting denominational members who seek to know biblical truth. This program requires many tricks to be able to convince and create a relationship ground for Bible study. With this program we were able to plant a new local Church of Christ in Lassa Lao. Other new locations are in the pipeline for this denominational program. We sincerely appreciate this program that helps advance the Kingdom of Christ and find students for the Bible Training School.

6-   Radio Program :

The evangelists in charge of this program are very faithful because it’s a very effective way of faithfully preaching the gospel. It also helps us build a relationship with our listeners and establish a curriculum with those who accept. This radio program has enabled us to baptize a young man who has decided to follow Bible training, but who is currently being persecuted by the Pastor and others members of this denominational church. God is also in control and this young man is very committed to his decision and work and always worships with us. He will be among the students for the Bible Training School. We ask for a union of prayers in favor of this young man. We also need your prayers for this Radio Program.

7-    The Computer Program :

We salute this Computer Program which is helping students to handle the computer. They are very attentive and interested in this course. They are very grateful for the interest shown in this course. For them, research for their courses or preparation for teaching or preaching will be easy and very beneficial.

We continue to pray for all those who help us to be well equipped to be evangelists able to preach the gospel everywhere with confidence.

Upcoming Programs:

-        October 2024 : Edification campaign in Kara-University local church

-        November 2024 : Edification campaign in Soumdina local church

-        December 2024 : Camp for all local churches of Christ.

In Christ,

Fidele

Warri Centers school updates

REPORT OF THE BEAR VALLEY BIBLE INSTITUTE – WARRI CENTERS

JULY –SEPTEMBER 2024

INTRODUCTION

It is another opportunity to catch a glimpse of how the Bear Valley Bible Institute Warri Centers have carried on this past three months. The entire staff and students are highly elated that we survived another quarter doing the masters’ bidden despite the difficult times in this clime. The school is grateful to the larger Bear Valley Family for their constant support. To the Almighty God, who knows and sees all things, we give all the glory.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:

DSC CENTER

In the month of July, Meredith Owvromoh continued lectures on Hermeneutics II. The students were guided on the various methods of biblical interpretation and application. In summary, Biblical Hermeneutics II explores the theoretical and practical aspects of interpreting the Bible, focusing on understanding the author's intended meaning and applying it to contemporary contexts. A total of 23 students sat for the examinations.

In August, Godwin Ojochogwu taught the class on Hebrews II. It was built on Hebrews I. It evaluated, compared and contrasted the Holy of Holies here on earth and the heavenly sanctuary. The efficacy of the blood of Christ and the fact that without the shedding of the blood there cannot be forgiveness of sin. It further exalted the students on why one should remain steadfast and looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. A total of 21 students sat for the examination.

The month of September was a long-awaited month for the discussion on the Book of Revelation I. It was an exciting experience for the students since almost all of them had never had an idea of what the book of Revelation is all about. It was considered “a no-go area.” It was significant to note the first eleven chapters told the story and the last eleven chapters would retell the story. A beautiful outline was captured in chapter 1:19 and subsequently, the seven churches, the seven seals, the seven angels with the seven trumpets, the seven bowls of wrath and the grand finale. A total of twenty (22) out of twenty-seven (27) students sat for the examination.

PTI CENTER

Classes resumed at the PTI center in July with Solomon Usim handling the class on Homiletics II. The course was predominantly on how to plan a curriculum for the church. It reevaluated the types of sermons, classification of preaching and a thorough consideration of the methods of reasoning. Ten (10) out of 17 students sat for the examination.

In the month of August, Iduh Odike taught the class on the principles of Hermeneutics II. It basically considered the various methods of interpretation ranging from historical-grammatical methods to geographical methods. A total of 12 persons sat for the examination.

Lectures resumed in September with Abiola Ojoade taking a study of the book of John. The book of John reevaluated the deity of Jesus Christ and reemphasized that Jesus is not a creature but the creator. This particular course is of great interest as many people in the area are being misled to believe that Jesus Christ is one of the angels. Eleven (11) out of seventeen (17) students sat for the examination.

Ughelli Center

The Ughelli center resumed school activities for the quarter with Godwin Ojocheogwu discussing the Book of Romans I. The book gave an overview showing that the Gentiles were considered sinners in chapter 1. In chapter 2 the Jews were indicted. The letter part of chapter 2 the self-righteous were indicted, too. In chapter 3 all mankind were considered sinners. In chapter 4 justification was shown not to be by the works of the law but by faith in Christ Jesus. Chapter 5 is a transitional book. It maintained that all died in the first Adam and all were made alive in the second Adam. Chapter 6 x-rayed the theme on sanctification and so on. It was an awesome experience with the students. Eight (8) out of sixteen (16) students sat for the examination.

In the month of August, Solomon Usim taught the class on Writing, Language and Research. In this course, a lot of hand written essays were done. Students were thoroughly evaluated on their ability to write. Secondly, citing resource materials were well considered. Plagiarism was carefully explained. A total of 10 out of 16 students sat for the exams.

In the month of September, Alaba Gabi, examined the book of Acts of the Apostles. Under this course, (1) we carried out a review on the content of Acts. (2) We also studied the concept of Holy Spirit baptism. (3) We studied the concept of “breaking bread” (4) We traced briefly the Three missionary journeys of Paul, and his trip to Rome. The total number of students who sat for the final exams were nine (9) out of 16 students.

CHALLENGES

The Nigerian situation has moved from “problem pro” to “problem pro-max.” Some students eventually dropped because they could not afford transportation. Those who insist on continuing are getting transport support from both students and staff. In fact, a lovely young preacher, Emmanuel Ubuidodo, and Grant Onashe etc of the PTI Centers are no longer coming because of a hike in transportation. Victor Nwagbo relocated to Hungary for his master’s in Crop Science under the United Nation sponsorship. Moreover, the Ughelli center suffered a setback because of the dissolution of the eldership at Evueta congregation where the center is located. The elders have been the ones encouraging the school. However, the new preacher is beginning to accept the school and we pray that peace would be restored in the congregation. Some students from the center dropped because of transportation and the crisis in the congregation. At some point in early August, classes were disrupted because of the nation-wide protest against bad governance in Nigeria. However, things are getting back and normalcy is being restored. Overall, the school is in good shape in the Warri axis.

THIRD QUARTER'S EVENTS

·      Number of Students- Sixty-one (61), seventeen (17) at PTI, Twenty-seven (27) at DSC and sixteen (16) at Ughelli center.

·      Number of Campaigns Conducted by Students/Teachers in this Quarter: None.

·      Number of Baptisms resulting from evangelical efforts by students/teachers this quarter: 10.

·      Number of New Congregations Established: None

·      Number of Teachers at the School: Seven (7)

·      Number of Churches or Individuals Restored: Sister Grace Anthony has been a member of the church for a long time as well as the entire family in Benin city. However, she married a non-member of the church and relocated to Warri. Since then, she stopped worshipping. During our regular evangelism at Sedo Street in Iyara, Warri South LGA, one of our groups met with her and she identified herself. We continued the encouragement and she has started worshipping joyfully again. We are praying to get to her husband soon.

CONCLUSION

It has not been an easy ride especially with the Nigerian situation. However, God is the ultimate sustainer of the universe. It is to Him that all glory is given. The faculty and staff members are grateful also to the Bear Valley Family in Denver Colorado and also to the school coordinators in Nigeria. It is our prayer that the last quarter will yield more fruit in Christ name, amen.

Myanmar school updates

As for me, I am doing well with my family. Thank God. The political situation is not getting better yet. We still have many restrictions.

However, we pushed ourselves to have classes with older students, who are over forty years old, and five of us had two weeks of school from August 28 to September 11. We studied two subjects: Christian Family and Preacher and his Work. After our class, we could visit the homes of brethren as a group and encourage them. It was so uplifting.

If the Lord will, we are planning to take the school to Chin State in November or December for two weeks, where there is no fighting, and gather our students as much as possible, and study two subjects: I&II Timothy, Titus, and Christian Ethics. I request Titus Thang Pi (son of Thian Lian) to teach Christian Ethics and VAN THAWM LING to teach Timothy and Titus.

I am so thankful to God for allowing me to be a part of His great work and putting me in the hands of you, who loves, cares, and supports me.

With love and appreciation.

Evangelism in Taraba State, Nigeria

Greetings from Taraba School with hope that this will find you growing in all aspects of life especially in the Faith. It is yet another opportunity to share with you in summary what transpired in the school here in Taraba between the month of July and September 2024.

Classes: our class activities went on normal every Saturday and sometimes Fridays evening in order to cover large materials. Preacher & his work was taught by Bala Egbwakoteh. Denominational Doctrines and the book of Galatians were handed by Elkanah Madaki under the months reviewed.

Evangelism: Even though we were unable to go out for two weeks as a result of hike in fuel pump price, we were able to adjust the area to cover and continue effectively meeting more people indoors. Because of the cost of living, people hardly leave  their homes. Unfortunately, we did not record any baptism but most of our invitees honor our invitation to study or worship with the church near to their homes. Our students also continue to teach and preach in the church at Gollong, Iware, and Kufai all within Jalingo metropolis.  On a sad note, one of our students Nathaniel Gbar loss his wife in Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Jos, Plateau state last August and she has since been buried  in his hometown Benue state.

We continue to covet your prayers as we are working with some local congregations over here to secure accommodations for some brethren outside Jalingo that are willing to come and study in our school . Please also remember our country Nigeria in your daily prayers.

Thank you for this rare opportunity to work with you with hope that we shall be together in heaven.

Dearly yours in Christ,

Madaki I. Elkanah
