Weekly Extension Update 7/1

This week's update begins with exciting two announcements!

First, due to the generosity of a soul-conscious donor, all contributions for new Bear Valley extensions will be matched, dollar for dollar! Your $100 becomes $200; your $500 becomes $1,000; and so on. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals and congregations, alike. If you would like more information, write me at kkasarjian@wetrainpreachers.com and I'll be happy to help.

Also, we are excited to announce that the new school in New Zealand began yesterday! Details and pictures will be forthcoming soon, but this now makes 22 schools in 18 countries!

Now, on to the reports...

There are many activities going on at the school in Ibadan, Nigeria. Click the green to see growth and you will be encouraged.

The school in Arusha, Tanzania has been on break, but that hasn't kept them from accomplishing more good things for the Kingdom.

The school in Mbanga, Cameroon continues to serve the church in an unprecedented way. More French-speaking servants are needed in this part of the country and world.

Nothing has come easy for our Ukrainian brethren, but they are still persevering, and even growing, despite the hard circumstances they are forced to face. Read this report for some enCOURAGEment.

Justin and Anna Maynard continue to be involved in a number of activities, all of which are producing growth in Tanzania. It's hard to not love what they're doing!

Again, if you or your congregation are interested in literally doubling your missions dollars, write me and we will explore how you can be involved now or how you can begin planning for 2017.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping to train preachers all over the world.

God bless,

Keith Kasarjian
Director of Extensions

Donnie Bates named to new combined role as Dean of Academics

Donnie Bates has accepted the position of Dean of Academics for the Bear Valley Bible Institute starting with the 2016-17 school year. Donnie has most recently been serving as the Dean of Graduates Studies for the school and has done an outstanding job in that capacity. Now, Donnie has agreed to handle the academics for the two-year Preaching Program as well. This new combined administrative role places the academics function of both the two-year Preaching Program and the Graduate Studies Program into one new title, Dean of Academics. Michael Hite, Vice President of Operations for the Insitute said this about the change,“Donnie has done a great job of streamlining functions in the Graduate Program. We have automated course enrollment and reporting, fee payment and processing, and he has improved overall communication with students and instructors greatly. All of this makes taking on the additional responsibilities of the academics of the two year program possible. Donnie is a go getter and we are excited about the new role he will play on the administrative team here.” In addition to the responsibilities of this new role, Donnie will continue to teach in the two-year program as well.

Brother Bates has been part of the Bear Valley team since 2007 when he started teaching part-time in the Extension Studies Program. In 2008, after completing His Masters of Biblical Studies degree, he became the coordinator for our Extension school in Honduras. Donnie left pulpit work in 2009 and became the Regional Director of Extensions for Latin America. He began as Dean of the Graduate Program in 2015.

Donnie is a native of Oklahoma. He enrolled as a student of the Bear Valley School of Biblical Studies in 1979. While a student at Bear Valley he met and married his wife Noma. In 1983, the Bates moved to Santiago, Chile as part of the first mission team to form at Bear Valley. Shortly after their return in 1985 their daughter Jessica was born. The Bates have worked with churches in Colorado, Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Most recently Donnie was appointed as one of the 8 elders for the Bear Valley church of Christ.

Keith Kasarjian named as Director of Extensions for Bear Valley

Keith Kasarjian has been named the new Director of  Extension Studies for the Bear Valley Bible Institute. Keith has been with the extension school program since 1999, just 2 years after it began, and has taught in the majority of the 21 foreign schools currently in operation. Keith’s previous role with the program was Assistant Director and he worked closely with Bob Turner who recently moved to Louisiana to be closer to family.

Keith earned his Bachelor's degree from Faulkner University and his Master's in Biblical Studies from the Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver. Keith has preached for more than 20 years for congregations in Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He has participated in additional mission work in Scotland, Russia, Canada, Greece, Armenia, South Africa, Cambodia, and Zambia. While we are saddened by the loss of Bob Turner in the role as Director, we are confident  that Keith's educational background, Biblical soundness, mission work, and time within the Extension Program bring a wealth of experience to the administration of the team.

The Bear Valley Bible Institute International has been operating preacher training schools in foreign countries since 1997. There are currently 21 school in 18 countries around the globe. Classes begin August 8 in Denver….

Classes are set to fire up in just a few more weeks - August 8! The 2016-17 school year is an exciting one in Denver. We have added new staff, new courses and schedules and lots of new students starting their training.

New staff members join the team

With all the exciting things happening here at Bear Valley we are elated to announce the addition of three new faculty members to the Bear Valley staff. Jeff Miller, of Apologetics Press, Mike Vestal, a “preacher’s preacher” from Midland, TX, and John Moore, an accomplished educator and speaker from Dripping Springs, TX. All three of these men will teach a variety of courses at the Bible Institute throughout the year as adjunct instructors.

Jeff Miller, Ph.D.

Jeff Miller, Ph.D.

Jeff Miller, Ph.D., actually began as an instructor with Bear Valley during the 2015-16 school year teaching Christian Evidences. Dr. Miller’s extensive background in the sciences and his work with Apologetics Press as an instructor and author provide unparalleled expertise to teach evidences to our preacher students. He will continue to live and work in Montgomery, AL and will teach the Christian Evidences course live through our classroom video conference system. He currently serves as the full-time science writer at Apologetics Press where he is the Associate Editor of A.P.’s monthly Christian evidences journal for adults, Reason & Revelation, as well as the Editor of the A.P. Bible Class Curriculum. He is also the author of the book, Science vs. Evolution. We are honored that he has agreed to teach in our program and the depth of knowledge he brings to this subject will enhance our program immeasurably.

Mike Vestal

Mike Vestal, preacher from the Westside congregation in Midland, TX, will also be joining our staff beginning in the 2016-17 school year. The elders of the Westside congregation have agreed to partner with Bear Valley by allowing brother Vestal to travel to Denver to teach classes a number of times each year. He has served as the preacher for the Westside congregation for the past 17 years and has preached in 37 states and 6 foreign countries during his extensive ministry spanning the last 35 years. He originally studied Bible at Freed-Hardeman University where he met and married his wife Cherie. Mike is known throughout the Brotherhood as a man that loves preachers. He is a sought-after speaker and teacher and works tirelessly mentoring and encouraging young preachers. He will now bring that passion into the Bear Valley classrooms helping to train the next generation of preachers. His excitement, exuberance, experience, and knowledge will be a tremendous asset to our students as he teaches two Homiletics courses, the Gospel of Luke and Godhead.

John Moore

John Moore, M.Ed., has also agreed to join our faculty beginning this August as part of the 2016-17 school year. Brother Moore will continue to live and work in Dripping Springs, TX, but will travel to Denver to teach classes a number of times each year including *Bible Geography*, *1 & 2 Thessalonians*, *Philippians*, and more. He has served as the campus minister and director of the Bible chair at the University church of Christ in San Marcos, Texas, located near Texas State University as well as the preacher for the Dripping Springs church of Christ.  John is a certified public school teacher and a graduate of Southwest Texas State University, where he earned both a B.S. in Education and a Masters in Education degree in the department of Counseling and Psychological Services. He also currently serves on the advisory board of World Video Bible School. Brother Moore is an accomplished narrator, author, and instructor and his most recent endeavor includes directorship of the Bible Land Passages Project. Kathy Pollard becomes the new Dean of Women in Denver

Another exciting change at Bear Valley this year is the addition of Kathy Pollard as the Dean of the Women's Program. Kathy is an accomplished speaker, teacher, writer and personal worker. She is often sought after throughout the Brotherhood to speak at ladies days and on lectureships.
